Not every school is meant for everyone.
Some schools are best suited for fast learners, where lessons move at lightning speed and teachers focus on those who easily grasp new concepts. Maka masukulu a night-wa, nthawi imakhala yochepa kwambiri koma amafuna atagaitsa stuff yochuluka. Pali ophunzra ena amafunika nthawi yochuluka, zitsanzo zochuluka kuti ayaze ngini. Many are left behind fukwa choti nthaw imakhala yochepa.
Imagine a class filled with repeaters, some of whom already have 20 points, 18 points, or even 17 points from their previous attempts. These students are hungry for better results, and teachers naturally focus more on them because they catch on quickly. Awawa akangomva basi the teacher moves forward, leaving slow learners stranded, confused, and quietly dying academically.
Some students don’t need a good school to do better, amangofunikan attention just as m'mene akazi amafunira attention muchibwenz or m'banja. These are the students I call Special Attention Learners (SALES). Amangofunikira m'phunzitsi who takes them back to basics, breaks down concepts patiently, and moves step by step. Unfortunately, most schools don’t have time for that. Ndi zija mwana kumangobwereza koma points ake kumangozungulira pomwepomwepo, like 38, 34, 31.
Chosangalatsa nchoti anthu oterewa xu amaifuna koooopsa koma zimakanika kuyenda m'mene iwo akufunira. Zibwana kusiya apo, alipo ena oti amayesetsa ndthu kupanga zimene anzawo ooneka anzeruwo amapanga koma ngini szwathekera. Nkhani ndi yoti akungofunikra singano ya bho ibole pena pake kuti nzeru zitseguke. And awawa akayaza ngini samaiwala chisawawa, amakhala madolo kwambiri.
I speak from experience. There was a time imene mnayazitsa mfana wina wake who scored 30pts in 2016 MSCE. Mnamugaitsa stuff mpaka kuswa 17pts in 2017 without going to any school. Hard work yake inakumana ndi hard work yanga as m'phunzitsi wake mpake anakhoza choncho. Previously Maths, Bio anali ndi 7 and 6, koma after kuyazitsana stuff anabwerako ndi ma 2.
Another experience, in 2023 I was invited to revise lessons that had already been taught in a certain school. To my surprise, students recommended that they should just continue learning with me because they understood my explanations better. What I did differently was simple, I took them back to the foundations before introducing new topics, so that we could all move together.
The sad truth is that many students pay exorbitant school fees thinking they’ll perform like the top scorers of that school, forgetting that every learner has a different pace and need. They get attracted to big names and beautiful results, not realizing that learning success comes from understanding yourself and finding a system that works for you.
Most of the victims of this situation are women, both young girls and adults who return to school after some time to improve their certificates. They often join schools that move too fast or lack personal support, only to end up discouraged and frustrated.
Mfundo yanga apa ndi yakuti don’t chase schools because of their fame or because someone scored 6 points there. Instead, choose a learning environment that respects your pace, builds your confidence, and focuses on understanding, not just passing. Dziwaninso kuti xu imasonkha pang'ono, kwambiri umakhala wekha.
