Trump's tariff threats rest on the claim that Mexico isn't doing enough on cartels. Today, Sheinbaum put the actual numbers on the screen behind her: intentional homicides down 51 percent since her administration started, from 86.9 a day to 42.5 a day, the lowest daily average since 2015.
Alongside that came 63,564 high-impact arrests, 32,824 fi****ms seized, and 518.7 tons of drugs confiscated, all government data, all since September 2024. A 51 percent drop in daily homicides is not a rounding error or a favorable quarter. It is a sustained, nearly two-year trend that directly contradicts the premise US tariff policy keeps repeating. Either the numbers are wrong, or the justification is.
Cutting the daily homicide rate in half is not what "not doing enough" looks like. Which do you think is actually driving the tariff threats, the security data or something else?
