how to DIY an XLR cable. Step 1. buy microphone cable and connectors on Amazon/eBay/Mercadolibre, etc. or at a local electronics store, and get a decent option, not the cheapest one. Step 2. Measure and cut the desired length of cables. Step 3. disassemble connectors and place rubber boot and plastic crimp pieces on each side of the cable. Step 4. strip wire, cut off foil and string around smaller wires, strip the two smaller wires, and twist the copper shielding up into its own little wire. Step 5. Find an XLR soldering diagram online, and pay special attention to the orientation of the diagram. Step 6. solder the wires into the posts. Step 7. assemble connectors and test!! I highly recommend you make your own cables. I usually use GLS cable, but in this video I am using cheap cable from Steren in Mexico. Spend most of your money on good connectors. Neutriks are great, but quality Chinese connectors will serve most people just fine. If buying a name brand connector, be careful to avoid fakes as they are very common.
