🚨 THE 15 WITNESSES OF THE BOARD THAT YOU SHOULDN'T IGNORE
Your car's dashboard is designed to alert you when something isn't working right. Some lights are just informative, but others indicate faults that can compromise safety, cause serious engine damage, or cause very costly repairs if you continue to drive.
Knowing the significance of these witnesses can help you act on time and avoid major malfunctions.
These are 15 dashboard witnesses you should never ignore. ⚠️👇
1. Check Engine
Indicates that the computer detected a fault in the engine, emission system or some sensor. It is recommended to make a diagnosis with an OBD2 scanner.
2. Oil Pressure
Turns on when the l**e pressure is insufficient. You must stop the engine immediately to avoid serious damage.
3. Engine temperature
Warning engine overheating. Continue driving can cause damage to the head gasket or even the engine.
4. Brake system
This may indicate low brake fluid levels, system wear and tear or that the parking brake remains activated.
5. ABS
Spot a failure in the anti-lock brake system. Although the vehicle can keep braking, it will lose ABS function.
6. Drum
Indicates a problem in the charging system, such as a failure in the alternator, battery or attachment band.
7. Airbag (SRS)
Warns a failure in the airbag system. In case of an accident, they may not activate properly.
8. Assisted Steering (EPS)
Identify a problem with the electrical steering. Steering can get a lot heavier.
9. Stability control (ESC/ESP)
Indicates a failure in the stability system or has been disabled. This can affect vehicle control on slippery surfaces.
10. TPMS
Warning that one or more tires have low pressure or there is a failure in the monitoring system.
11. Automatic transmission
Indicates a possible failure or overheating in transmission. Ignoring this warning can cause very costly damage.
12. Particle Filter (DPF)
In diesel engines, it indicates that the filter needs regeneration or presents an obstruction.
13. Sistema AWD / 4WD
Identify a failure in the all-wheel drive system or one of its components.
14. AdBlue / DEF
In modern diesel vehicles, it indicates low DEF fluid level or a failure in the emission reduction system.
15. Immobilizer / Key
The key is not being recognized or there is a problem with the anti-theft system, which can prevent the engine from starting.
WHAT TO DO WHEN A WITNESS TURNS ON?
• Don't ignore a red light on the dashboard.
• Consult the owner's manual to know its meaning.
• Check basic levels like oil and soda if it's safe to do so.
• If the vehicle shows noises, loss of power or overheating, stop as soon as possible.
• Perform a diagnosis with an OBD2 scan to identify the exact cause.
Remember a witness is a warning, not a definitive diagnosis. In many cases, the problem can be a sensor, wiring, or pending maintenance, but taking care of it on time can avoid much more expensive repairs.
