Bursting in (galactic) air 🌟

Glittering here like a cosmic firework is N44, a unique and complex nebula captured by NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. One of its most distinctive features is a dark, starry gap—a “superbubble”—spanning about 250 light-years wide.

Though not actually bursting, the hole is something of a mystery to astronomers: Stellar winds may have driven the gas away or expanding supernovae could’ve created the cosmic cavern.

Good morning, Earthlings! Here is one of the most bizarre little worlds of our solar system... This stunning false-color view of Saturn's moon Hyperion reveals crisp details across the strange, tumbling moon's surface. Differences in color could represent differences in the composition of surface materials. Hyperion has a notably reddish tint when viewed in natural color. The red color was toned down in this false-color view, and the other hues were enhanced, in order to make more subtle color variations across Hyperion's surface more apparent.

Cassini scientists think that Hyperion’s unusual appearance can be attributed to the fact that it has an unusually low density for such a large object, giving it weak surface gravity and high porosity. These characteristics help preserve the original shapes of Hyperion’s craters by limiting the amount of impact ejecta coating the moon’s surface. Impactors tend to make craters by compressing the surface material, rather than blasting it out. Further, Hyperion’s weak gravity, and correspondingly low escape velocity, means that what little ejecta is produced has a good chance of escaping the moon altogether.

Images taken using infrared, green and ultraviolet spectral filters were combined to create this view. The images were taken with the Cassini spacecraft's narrow-angle camera at a distance of approximately 62,000 kilometers (38,500 miles) from Hyperion and at a Sun-Hyperion-spacecraft, or phase, angle of 52 degrees. The image scale is 362 meters (1,200 feet) per pixel.

This scene is a part of the historic Artemis II flight, where the four-person crew—including NASA astronaut Christina Koch & Canadian Space Agency's astronaut Jeremy Hansen—conducted deep-space operations. Captured on April 7, 2026, the photograph highlights the crew actively testing and reviewing the Orion spacecraft's ergonomics and systems in microgravity.
During the 10-day lunar flyby mission, the crew conducted vital tests of life support, communications, and emergency protocols. Specific activities aboard the spacecraft during this period included:
Seat & Equipment Inspections: Mission Specialists like Christina Koch regularly audited seat hardware, harness adjustments, and other mechanical constraints to ensure optimal crew safety.
Crew Displays & Navigation: Astronauts monitored and updated telemetry and flight data displays, such as performing trajectory correction burns and navigating Orion.
Deep Space Preparedness: The crew practiced medical response drills, exercised, and tested the emergency communication systems.
The Artemis II crew successfully returned to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean on April 10, 2026, and paving the way for future lunar landings.

For billions of years, sunsets have occurred across the universe, unseen by human eyes. 🌌

Today, humanity can witness a sunset on another world for the very first time. Captured by NASA's rover on Mars, this remarkable image shows the Sun disappearing beyond the horizon of the Red Planet.

What makes it even more fascinating is that Martian sunsets often appear bluish because of the fine dust suspended in Mars' atmosphere. A beautiful reminder of how far human exploration has come—and how much more of the universe remains to be discovered.

Olympus Mons: The Giant of the Solar System

Mount Everest is Earth's tallest mountain at 8.8 km.

But on Mars, Olympus Mons towers to an incredible 25 km high — nearly 3 times taller than Everest.

Even more impressive, it's about 600 km wide, large enough to cover an entire U.S. state.

Mars may be a smaller planet, but it hosts the largest volcano ever discovered in our Solar System. 🔴🚀
