A rite of passage if you will!
An up and coming DJ has turned pro after earning his first drink tokens at a gig last Saturday.
Wayne Mason, aka DJ No Wayne, is believed to be “over the moon” with his new profession and hopes to make some actual money at some point in the future.
“It’s times like this that really make all the hard work, grafting and countless hours of practice worthwhile,” Mason said yesterday. “Up until now, I’ve been playing for exposure, which is good and all but I’ve found it really hard to get any value for my exposure, now I’m just happy to actually get something physical, that I can hold.”
“I did have to sell fifteen tickets to get the gig,” revealed the DJ. “In the end I had to buy eight of them myself, which cost me forty quid so when you take the value of the drink tokens away from that, three tokens at five quid each, I’m only down about twenty five quid, if only all of the gigs I’d played so far had been so profitable, I’d be far less broke than I am now.”
“I even got driven home, technically it wasn’t part of my pay, because my mum collected me, but I still save a few quid on the taxi fare so, when you think about it, I practically broke even, if I keep going at this rate, I’ll actually be making money within the next three or four years.”
However, Mr Mason’s enthusiasm for his newfound wealth is not felt by his mother, who is hoping her son will soon give up on his dreams to get a real job.
“He’s a professional nothing,” Mrs. Mason insisted. “All he does is sit up in his room, listening to music and smoking w**d, all of which is funded by me and his dad. We didn’t mind at first, we thought it was healthy for him to have a hobby but that was a long time ago, he’ll be thirty four next month and it’s time he got a job and moved out.”
Reports suggest that Mr Mason may soon have no choice but to look for work after his mother decided she would no longer be accepting exposure as payment for rent.
