Mere Liberty is Kerry Baldwin's platform for independent research and podcasting at the intersection of Reformed Christianity, libertarian philosophy, and Austrian economics. In addition to my content and courses here on my website, MereLiberty.com, She’s also a regular contributor for the Libertarian Christian Institute. Her writing focuses on libertarian philosophy and reformed theology and aime

d at the educated layperson; challenging readers to rethink prevailing paradigms in politics, theology, and culture. She is a Confessionally Reformed Christian orthodox Presbyterian in the tradition of J. Gresham Machen (1881 – 1937), an outspoken libertarian and defender of Christian orthodoxy. She became a libertarian, like so many others have in recent years, through exposure to the ideas of Ron Paul and a re-acquaintance with the US Constitution. In late 2016, she was introduced to the works of Roderick T. Long, Gary Chartier, and Gerard Casey (among others), and became convinced of anarchism. She is a reformed libertarian anarchist and hold that to be properly grounded in Reformed Christian convictions, and find an alternative to Patriarchalism, Feminism, Egalitarianism, and Complementarianism in a Reformed perspective. She is a single, homeschooling mother of three. She enjoys outdoor activities in the Jemez mountains near her home, and stereotypically introverted hobbies such as puzzles and brain teasers, reading, and learning more about herbal and nutritional medicine. She enjoys studying Reformational Philosophy by way of Roy Clouser, and appreciate the theology of Meredith Kline, Lee Irons, and Dutch theologians such as Herman Bavinck and Abraham Kuyper. Women, Christianity, and Libertarianism
Moving beyond the complementarian/egalitarian debate, I’m working on research, articles, and podcasts, concerning a Reformational (Dooyeweerdian) philosophical view of individual identity and social anthropology. While I hold to the general complementarity of the sexes (Gen 1:27) and to the ordination of only qualified (1 Tim 3:3-7) and called (Acts 1:12-26) and confirmed (1 Timothy 5:22) men, I reject Complementarianism for it’s substandard attempt at formulating a Christian anthropology, as well as its heterodox theology and view of the Gospel. A Novel Pro-life Libertarian View of Abortion
As some of you may know, I was recently in a debate with libertarian theorist and economist, Dr. Walter Block. We debated his theory of evictionism as a libertarian approach to abortion. I will continue work on a formal paper for peer review which includes the concepts of fetal self-ownership, child’s and parent’s rights (and responsibilities), rape, and differentiating aggressive and non-aggressive abuse. Mere Liberty Courses: Socratic Seminar
The Socratic method is a time-tested of method of teaching critical thinking and critically exploring ideas. It also teaches self-awareness, self-control, and self-confidence with those who disagree with you.

This is outrageous. Obvious physical violence against a 3 year old doesn't constitute child abuse. Why? Because the crime is defined by degree of harm, not initiatory aggression.

Addressing Pete Enns' claim that biblical inerrancy is incompatible with contemporary principles of civil governance. Differentiating inerrancy from biblicism, advocating a contextually informed hermeneutic, and explaining that Romans 13 endorses legitimate civil justice.

An interview with Cal Beisner of The Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation about media and politically-concocted climate alarmism in contrast with climate realism, based on genuine scientific study. We also talk about destructive governmental energy policy, and the environmental Kuznets curve.

I have a degree in philosophy and experience in homeschooling, independent research, and entrepreneurship. Thankfully, I don't have to deal with education licensing laws. I co-founded a micro high school and we just got our PSAT results. Together they averaged an increase in total score by 130 points. They're all reading well above their grade level, and increased 1.5 to 2 grade levels in their math scores. I'm glad to see Institute for Justice taking this on. It's a huge barrier to educating out kids.

FARGO, N.D.—Today the Institute for Justice (IJ) and Capstone Classical Academy filed a federal lawsuit challenging a North Dakota law that makes it nearly impossible […]

You did, but the calculator still says no.
The permission system rigged it upstream — to protect man-made scarcity.

The Confessionally Reformed view (which will be argued at length in a forthcoming Dare to Think series) does not split the difference between complementarianism and egalitarianism. It argues that the Westminster Standards, applied without the Trinitarian errors, totalizing hierarchies, egalitarian flattening, or feminist social theory each camp imports, produce a view none of them has captured. That is the argument this series will make.

Complementarianism functions as a political ideology in Harold Lasswell’s sense: controlling who gets access to authority, platforms, and credibility within ecclesial and social institutions. (This extends far beyond the historic bounds of the special office of pastor/elder). This essay argues that complementarianism’s origins in reaction to second-wave feminism reflect pragmatist assumptions rather than principled confessional grounding, that its institutional response to the SBC abuse crisis revealed this, and that a Reformed libertarian framework grounded in sphere sovereignty provides the analytical clarity neither complementarians nor egalitarians have been positioned to offer. Critiquing complementarianism as a political ideology is not an egalitarian argument; it is a principled one.
