Journalism Trust Initiative

Journalism Trust Initiative Official ISO-type standard for news publishers & news media Sign up to our newsletter https://eepurl.com/dqgfmv

The Journalism Trust Initiative aims to provide agreed norms, standards or equivalents that function as a verifiable set of rules and benchmarks, and that define the best practice of ethical journalism. The jti-app.com portal is a one-stop-shop for news outlets to run a self-evaluation of their professional standards, adjust wherever they deem necessary, and publish the results in a standardised,

machine-readable Transparency Report. The official ISO-type standard backing the Journalism Trust Initiative, the CWA 17493 published on Dec. 19 of 2019, allows for independent third-party audits to be performed and for news outlets to be certified against the ISO standard.

🇨🇿 Reporters sans frontières / Reporters Without Borders / RSF applauds Český rozhlas — the 13th public broadcaster to hold a Journalism Trust Initiative certificate — especially at a time when Czechia’s parliamentary elections campaign has been flooded by pro-Russian disinformation. ➡️ https://rsf.org/en/czech-radio-jti-certification

💬 "As the media outlet with the greatest degree of public trust in Czechia, we decided to verify our quality through an independent international audit. The result is an acknowledgement that ranks Czech Radio alongside the most respected public media outlets in the world. At a time when public service media are facing growing pressure and their role is being questioned, this certificate is clear proof that Czech Radio meets the highest international standards. For us, the JTI is therefore more than a simple recognition – it is proof that our way of working stands up to global standards." – Rene Zavoral, Director General, Czech Radio

The public service media Czech Radio (Český rozhlas) has obtained its Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) certification, an international standard for trustworthy journalism launched in 2019 by Reporters Without Borders (RSF). To date, more than 2,150 media outlets in 120 countries worldwide use the...

NEWSROOM UPDATE: Bulatlat, an independent news outfit focusing on human rights reporting, is the first newsroom in the Philippines to be accredited by Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI), an international standard initiated by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

JTI certifies news organizations based on the principles of transparency, accountability, and ethical journalism practices with the help of 19 credible certifiers. More than 2,130 media organizations have joined the initiative in 122 countries as of this writing.

"The JTI accreditation affirms that Bulatlat's human rights journalism adheres to the highest global standards and ethics in running a newsroom," Ronalyn Olea, Bulatlat's editor-in-chief, said in a statement.

The certification process starts with self-assessment of the outfit by answering structured questions. It is followed by public disclosure of the results immediately. The last process, certification, involves an independent audit conducted by an external body.

Bulatlat has been audited by Audit Bureau of Circulations, successfully passing all three stages of JTI’s accreditation. This recognition is given for showcasing and promoting trustworthy journalism.

"This accreditation is relevant as we continue to push back against red-tagging, cyber attacks and censorship," Olea added.

Bulatlat has been challenging a state-sponsored website blocking order from the National Telecommunications Commission for more than three years. The newsroom is still awaiting the decision of the court.

"Bulatlat remains dedicated to its mission of amplifying the voices of the marginalized and oppressed sectors amid disinformation and digital authoritarianism," Olea ended.

🗣️ ‘Credibility is built on respect for good practices, said Enrico Bellavia, deputy director of 70-year-old newspaper L'Espresso. The self-assessment allows us to reflect on what we have done and what we can still do to make our dialogue with readers even more open and frank, [the transparency] of our work, and what are the most effective ways to strengthen a pact of loyalty between readers and journalists.’
