When I moved back into San Miguel de Allende’s Centro, nearly a year ago, as I visited with my landlords on the terrace, I asked them to tell me what the most important celebrations were to them, and the people of San Miguel. I had discovered a deepening connection to journaling through song lyrics at the horse ranch and wanted to find ways to express my love for the people of this town through music.
I wrote down the celebrations. I had experienced most of them. As I did research (and improved my Spanish through writing song lyrics and a lot of google translate) I found my understanding deepen in sweet, indescribable ways.
As I leaned into the meaning of the celebrations I felt like centuries of voices and tradition called out as if to say, “Welcome into our world.” Here is the fruit of my gladly given labor. Thanks to being able to cocreate with Intelligence over countless hours and retakes, restyling, (and helping me rhyme lyrics when I needed help) here is the fruit of my gladly given labor. This is the first, of what will likely be three albums as time, inspiration and energy allow.
