Still Strong

Still Strong Helping people become the kind of person hardship cannot destroy—through faith, family, discipline, health, and resilience. Not untouched. Not unbroken.

Still Strong.

When we’re younger, getting stronger can become the goal.

The older I get, the more I realize strength is only part of it.

I want to be strong enough to carry the load—but flexible enough to keep moving well while I do it.

Because adding years to your life isn’t much of a victory if you can’t use them.

Strength matters.
Flexibility matters.
Capability is the goal.

Keep training for the years ahead.

My wife sent me this picture.

I’ve been thinking lately about perspective.

There’s how we see ourselves.
There’s how other people see us.
And then apparently there’s how our wives see us. 😂

After 30 years of marriage, I guess this is her perspective of our relationship.

She’s carrying the load, and I’m just along for the ride.

I’d like to offer my perspective…

But one of the things I’ve learned in 30 years of marriage is knowing when to keep my mouth shut.

Perspective is a funny thing. Two people can look at the exact same relationship or the exact same situation and see something completely different.

Married folks, if your spouse made a picture representing your marriage, what would it look like?

You asked how you could help Brenda.

So we asked her if she’d let us.

She said yes. ❤️

Brenda didn’t share her story looking for sympathy or a handout. That’s part of what made so many of us fall in love with her in the first place.

But sometimes when people want to be generous, you have to let them.

We’ve set up a GoFundMe for Brenda.

If her story touched you and you’d like to be part of it, the link is in the comments. If you can’t donate share this post.

And yes… her AC really is set at 80. 😂

Still Strong.

This part of my conversation with Brenda broke my heart.

She’s 81 years old and still waiting tables at Cracker Barrel.

Her Plan B, when she can no longer carry those heavy plates or afford her rent, is a van she bought specifically because it’s big enough for a single mattress and a few containers for her clothes.

But what struck me most wasn’t the van.

It was the way she talked about it.

No bitterness. No complaining. Just a matter-of-fact determination that somehow, she’ll keep going.

There’s a lot I’m still thinking about after this conversation.

I went to dinner alone that Friday night.

I came home thinking about an 81-year-old waitress I couldn’t get out of my mind.

Her husband is gone. Both of her sons are gone. And at 8:00 on a Friday night, she’s still waiting tables because she has to.

I left her $500 that night.

But that’s not the story.

The story is what happened when she followed me toward the door crying and asked me why.

My answer was simple:

If her reality were my mom’s reality—or someday my wife’s reality I would hope somebody would notice her too.

Tomorrow, she’s my guest on Still Strong.

Don’t miss this one.

Stay Strong.

Some days you feel strong.

Some days you don’t.

But I’m learning that strength isn’t always about how much weight is on the bar. Sometimes strength is simply showing up and doing what you said you were going to do.

You don’t have to feel ready.
You don’t have to feel motivated.

You just have to stop negotiating with yourself.

Show up anyway.

The family’s on vacation, but somebody had to stay behind and supervise the workout crew.

I’m not sure who’s watching who. 😂
