The book ban hoax
The The U.S. Department of Education has taken steps to end what it called the “book ban hoax” promoted by the previous administration. Epoch Times article 26 Jan.
About time. Notice that none of these books contribute to the students' academic progress. Moreover, it isn't about book banning, it's about the standards to decide how best to manage a limited budget and library space, who decides and by what authority.
The education cartel promoted the false rumor that parent's rights was code for book banning. It became a political slogan suitable for bumper stickers. I've heard teachers repeat it as if it were a major or the only issue in education today. Some of them stumbled over what they were told they were against. They couldn't remember.
Besides being nonsense, it was a wedge issue that turned the natural harmony of interests between parents and teachers into a fake conflict of interests. Furthermore, it isn't about parents rights, it's about parent's authority. What right does the educational establishment have to pry apart the most ancient, strongest, natural and most tender of human relations, that of a parent and child? None.
Book banning is a side issue like picking the fruit of the poison tree expecting it to stop producing. The ideology behind including the controversial grooming material in the library is the bankrupt Marxist critical theory that is in DEI, SEL and a host of other affective curriculum choices that have been imbedded in public schools throughout the nation and competes with time for academic skills. Pull out the tree, root and branch, and the poison fruit will disappear. Otherwise, it will still be in everything including math, language skills and science.
The new department leadership said that decisions about school library content should be made at the local level by parents and school boards.
