Tender Childhood Memories of an Olde Farte
By GD Shaffer
This series is a collection of memories from my childhood growing up on a farm in Iowa. I hope they bring a smile as we reminisce together those days gone but not forgotten. Except for those with Alzheimer’s. Now where did I leave my keys?...👇

Episode 2. Ol’ Doc Patterson, Dad’s ’55 Buick, and Facebook… in the 60’s?

Sticky Business
By Larry Kolczak

Years ago, I was a volunteer crew member on a square-rigged sailing ship owned by The Ocean Institute in Dana Point, California. The crew would gather every Saturday to maintain the ship. As a reward, we would get to sail it for two weeks at the end of summer. Occasionally, we had some inner-city teenagers on board so they could have the once-in-a-lifetime adventure of sailing on a tall ship. They learned to climb up the 90-foot-high masts, and experienced firsthand the teamwork required to handle the ship’s 14 sails.....👇

Visit Guadalajara This Christmas
By Herbert Piekow

Guadalajara is a city of exceptional beauty, history and culture. In 2005 Guadalajara was designated an American Capital of Culture. In 2011 Guadalajara earned the international title “The City of Light,” when 32 buildings and public spaces were adorned with special lights and during Christmas this world title shines at its best with the addition of the colored Christmas lights and lighted seasonal expositions that illuminate public and commercial buildings. The festive light displays radiate from the downtown intersection of Javier Mina and Avenida Alcalde. Plaza Guadalajara, the square directly in front of the Cathedral Basilica de la Asuncion de Maria Santisima, commonly called Guadalajara Cathedral, is one block from this intersection.....👇

PROFILE – Joyce Noriega Profile
By Carolyn Kingson

Thinking of her happy 26 years of living at Lake Chapala, dancing along the way with flamenco, tango and son, New York City-born Joyce Noriega says, “After all, it’s my second home.” Then she thinks: “Or should I say Paris is my second home? Maybe Brussels? London?” It’s a true puzzle for ultra-cosmopolitan Joyce, now 92 and very much full of life. She does have a lot to connect her to Mexico though, having a Mexican father and a famous grandfather – Manuel Noriega (no relation to the dictator) who, though born in Spain made his mark in Mexico starring in almost 200 movies.....👇

¡Feliz Navidad! 🎄✨

Christmas in Ajijic is an authentic, deeply community-centered celebration lived in the town’s streets, plazas, and neighborhoods. Throughout December, neighbors, families, and visitors take part in posadas from December 16 to 24, candlelit walks with traditional songs, piñatas, Christmas treat bags, traditional holiday plays. Open-air artistic performances such as contemporary circus and aerial dance add creativity and culture to the festive atmosphere. The multicultural community, safe and welcoming environment, and the picturesque setting along Lake Chapala make Christmas in Ajijic something that is not just observed, but truly experienced.
Merry Christmas! 🎄✨

La Virgen de Guadalupe: The Goddess of the People
By Noris Binet
The Virginal State and the Age of the Feminine

I grew up questioning the status of women in the Church, which in the Dominican Republic, where I was born, is predominantly the Roman Catholic Church, as it is also in Mexico, where I now live. Even though supposedly the son of God was born of the Virgin Mary, placing her in an exalted position as the “Mother of God,” I still didn’t see an equal presence of women in leadership along with men.....👇

How I Keep My Pool of Friends Full

Even though it wasn’t exactly funny, I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants. Doug had turned 78, and I called to congratulate him. He’s a Viet Nam vet, and a tall, sturdy guy who wears hearing aids and takes half a dozen pills every day....👇
