ROHINGYA WELCOME TO STAY IN BANGLADESH UNTIL SAFE TO RETURN, BNP CHAIRMAN SAYS

Arakan Now | 7 Feb 2026

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said he wanted Rohingya refugees to return home but said they should be allowed to remain in Bangladesh until conditions in Myanmar are safe enough for their return, according to Reuters.

"We will try to work on the issue so that these people can go back to their own land," he said. "The situation has to be safe for them to go back there. As long as it is not safe, they are very welcome to stay here."

Bangladesh, one of the world's most densely populated countries with high rates of extreme poverty, hosts nearly 1.2 million Rohingya Muslim refugees, many of whom fled repeated crackdowns in neighbouring Buddhist-majority Myanmar, where they are treated as outsiders, Reuters reported.

At the International Court of Justice, truth is being challenged by deliberate lies. Myanmar's representatives continue to spread false narratives, denying the history and identity of the Rohingya people. Yet the truth remains unshaken: the Rohingya have lived in Arakan for centuries, rooted in the land long before today's politics of hate. Instead of justice, denial is being used as a weapon. Extremist groups and military-backed actors fuel hatred, reject coexistence, and justify mass atrocities. The genocide did not end it has only changed form. Through displacement, misinformation, and ongoing violence, the Rohingya continue to suffer across borders. Lies may echo in courtrooms, but history, evidence, and the voices of survivors speak louder. Justice cannot be buried, and truth cannot be erased. Silence enables genocide. Truth demands to be heard.

Genocides Muslims

A landmark case accusing the Myanmar military of genocide against the minority Muslim Rohingya, has begun at the World Court. The Gambia, which filed the case, is accusing the military of deliberately targeting the community. Will Denselow reports from Brussels on the main arguments set out at the hearing.

The Gambian government has our sincerest appreciation. We demand justice. As victims of persecution from Myanmar's Arakan state, we are Rohingya. We have faith in Allah's wisdom and the proceedings of the International Court of Justice.
