KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 — Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Monday visited former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).

In a post on X, Zahid said he spent time that afternoon paying a visit to the Bera Member of Parliament.

“I pray that he continues to be given strength and good health, that all his affairs are eased, and that he is granted a complete recovery,” Zahid wrote.

“May he recover soon and be able to resume his daily life as usual, Insya-Allah.”

The post was accompanied by a photograph showing Zahid smiling and holding Ismail Sabri’s hand as the former prime minister sat up in his hospital bed.

Ismail Sabri was admitted to IJN after experiencing health problems on Aug 6 while recording a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

TEHRAN August 10, 2026 — German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation on Monday focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the critical waterway through which a significant share of global oil supplies normally passes.

According to Wadephul, he urged Iran to “finally engage constructively in negotiations with regional neighbours & USA in order to bring the conflict to an end.” He stressed that “the Strait of Hormuz needs to be opened unconditionally ensuring free and safe navigation for all.”

Iranian accounts of the call stated that Araghchi briefed his German counterpart on ongoing consultations with Oman aimed at establishing a safe shipping route through the strait. Araghchi emphasized that insecurity in the waterway stems from U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran and that securing the strait requires an end to U.S. “hostile acts,” particularly the naval blockade.

WASHINGTO D.C August 10, 2026 — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. Navy has completely mine-swept the Strait of Hormuz and now fully controls the critical waterway, declaring it open for most shipping amid ongoing tensions with Iran.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated: “Look, the only one that has control of the Strait of Hormuz right now is the U.S. Navy. We’ve mine-swept the entire strait… we control the strait 100 percent.”

He added that the waterway is “open now” for vessels not traveling to or from Iran, while emphasizing that the U.S. maintains an “infallible” naval blockade described as a “steel wall” that only targets Iranian-bound traffic. Trump noted occasional Iranian attempts to drop new mines, which he said U.S. forces continue to locate and clear.

WASHINGTON D.C August 10, 2026 - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called for Iran to be held responsible for the “damages and death” inflicted on the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Gaza, expanding his demands amid ongoing negotiations with Tehran.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote: “Also, with respect to the Iran negotiations, Iran should be responsible for the damages and death caused to the people of Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Gaza!”

The statement came roughly an hour after Trump first demanded that Iran compensate American victims of attacks he attributes to Tehran, as well as families of Iranian protesters killed by the regime. He framed the counter-demand as a response to Iranian negotiators seeking reparations for destruction caused during the five-month military conflict that began earlier this year.

TEHRAN August 10, 2026 — Iran declared on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed to commercial shipping until the United States unfreezes Iranian assets and hostilities cease in Lebanon.

The statement, reported by Iranian officials and circulating widely, ties the reopening of one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints directly to two key U.S. actions. A senior Iranian official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told reporters that Tehran will only allow normal traffic through the strait once Washington releases frozen Iranian funds and assets and the fighting involving Iran’s allies in Lebanon comes to an end.

The demand forms part of a broader set of conditions Iran has repeatedly outlined in recent days.

WASHINTON D.C August 10, 2026 - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday demanded that Iran pay compensation for American deaths, wounded personnel, and Iranian protesters killed over decades, reversing Tehran’s own call for war reparations after five months of conflict.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said Iranian negotiators had newly raised demands for compensation related to damage from the military campaign that began in late February, when the United States and Israel launched joint strikes on Iran. “It is an interesting idea because now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts,” he wrote.

Trump specifically referenced casualties linked to Iranian-backed operations, the 2000 attack on the USS Cole, and “hundreds of thousands of innocent protesters” he said the Iranian government has killed over the past 50 years, including more than 50,000 during the current war.

TEHRAN, August 10, 2026 — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Monday that Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is in perfect health, dismissing circulating rumors about the leader’s condition.

Speaking in an interview with state broadcaster IRIB, Pezeshkian described a recent seven- to eight-hour meeting with the Supreme Leader as “very good.” He said the two discussed a range of national issues, including people’s livelihoods, employment, housing, and the impact of sanctions.

“From the aspect of health, he is completely healthy,” Pezeshkian stated. “Someone who can sit and debate with us for seven, eight hours cannot have any health problems.”

The president added that the Supreme Leader emphasized the importance of national unity and solidarity during the talks.

Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran’s Supreme Leader in March 2026 after the Assembly of Experts selected him following the death of his father, former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in joint U.S.

TEHRAN, August 10, 2026 — Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Monday described the newly signed Mecca Joint Defense Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey as evidence of a fundamental change in how regional countries view the United States as a security provider.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told reporters at a weekly press conference that the pact reflects “a sign of a change in the perception” of countries in the region toward the US. “The countries of the region have realized that security is not a commodity that can be bought from false brokers,” he said, adding that regional states “cannot rely on the claim of security provided by the US as in the past.”

The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was signed on August 7 in the holy city of Mecca by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A World Health Organization (WHO) humanitarian warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, was destroyed in a strike that Ukrainian officials and multiple international reports attribute to Russian forces. The facility held emergency medical supplies intended for health facilities near the front lines.

According to WHO, the warehouse was hit on August 7, 2026. Staff and drivers had been on site earlier that day evacuating supplies and managed to move 130 of approximately 300 pallets before leaving. The remaining stock—estimated to be worth around $500,000 and consisting primarily of emergency health supplies—was destroyed. No casualties were reported.
