HORMOZGAN PROVINCE, IRAN January 8, 2026 — A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 struck southern Iran early Tuesday local time, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake occurred at approximately 21:08 UTC on June 8, 2026 (around 00:38 local time on June 9), with its epicenter located about 101 km (63 miles) north of Minab in Hormozgan Province, near the town of Sargaz. It struck at a shallow depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), which can intensify surface shaking in the region.

Iranian state media reported the tremor as a magnitude 5.0 event in the Sargaz area. No immediate reports of major structural damage or fatalities have emerged, consistent with the moderate strength of the event. Iran lies in a highly seismically active zone due to the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates, particularly along the Zagros Mountains, making earthquakes relatively common.

BEIRUT/JERUSALEM June 8, 2026 — Israel has stated it will press ahead with airstrikes and other operations targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in Lebanon, despite multiple U.S.-brokered ceasefire attempts in recent weeks.

The announcement, widely reported on social media and aligned with statements from Israeli officials, underscores the persistent challenges in de-escalating the conflict that erupted in March 2026. Multiple short-term truces — including extensions in April, May, and early June — have been repeatedly undermined by cross-border incidents, including rocket fire, drone attacks, and retaliatory strikes.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have maintained that operations will focus on dismantling Hezbollah’s military capabilities, particularly in southern Lebanon and areas used for launching attacks on Israel.

WASHINGTON D.C June 8 2026 — President Donald Trump stated that the United States and Iran continue to negotiate terms aimed at ending the ongoing war, which erupted in late February 2026 following failed nuclear talks and subsequent US-Israeli military strikes on Iranian targets.

In a recent update, Trump reiterated that discussions remain active, with both sides reportedly seeking an immediate ceasefire and a broader peace framework. He emphasized that final negotiations on "peace" are proceeding, though he cautioned they could be derailed by "ignorance or stupidity." The comments come as the conflict enters its fourth month, marked by intermittent ceasefires, renewed strikes, and disruptions to critical energy shipping routes.

The war began on February 28, 2026, with US and Israeli strikes on Iran amid stalled nuclear negotiations.

RANAU, Sabah – Federal Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has highlighted the federal government’s commitment to recognising Sabah’s constitutional right to a 40% special grant as provided under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Speaking at the Kaamatan festival in Kampung Kilimu, Ranau on 23 May 2026, Armizan — who is also Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general — emphasised ongoing efforts to fulfil the state’s long-standing entitlement.

The video shared by Armizan features footage of him addressing the crowd in traditional attire, alongside news clips and graphics showcasing the progressive increase in Sabah’s interim special grants:

2022: RM125.6 million

2023: RM300 million

2024: RM306 million

2025: RM600 million (with further increases reported up to RM1.5 billion in interim arrangements)

These figures demonstrate a clear upward trajectory in federal support pending full implementation of the 40% entitlement.

LONDON June 6, 2026 — Diplomatic friction between the United States and United Kingdom intensified on Friday after US Vice President JD Vance directly linked the stabbing death of 18-year-old British student Henry Nowak to broader failures in European immigration policy and elite attitudes toward migration.

Nowak was fatally stabbed in Southampton on December 3, 2025, by 23-year-old Vickrum Singh Digwa. Digwa, a British Sikh, was convicted of murder in late May 2026 and sentenced this week to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years.

The case has reignited public debate following the release of police bodycam footage showing officers handcuffing Nowak as he lay dying from multiple stab wounds. According to court evidence and sentencing remarks, Digwa falsely claimed to police that he was the victim of a racist attack by Nowak. Officers initially treated Nowak as the aggressor, despite his repeated pleas that he had been stabbed and could not breathe.

TEHRAN, IRAN June 6, 2026 — Iran's Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of breaching the fragile ceasefire agreement reached in April, citing fresh American strikes on surveillance and radar facilities in southern Iran.

In a statement, the ministry condemned the attacks on coastal radar installations near Sirik in Hormozgan Province and on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Officials described the sites as critical for border protection and ensuring safe navigation in international waters.

"Iran strongly condemns this flagrant violation of the ceasefire and an attack on the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the ministry said. It added that such actions disregard the United Nations Charter and affirmed Iran's right to legitimate self-defense under international law.

WASHINGTON, D.C. June 6, 2026 — U.S. military forces conducted a maritime interdiction and boarded the sanctioned, stateless oil tanker MT DAVINA (also known as Lenore) in the Indian Ocean, the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) announced on Friday.

The operation took place overnight in international waters approximately 20 miles southwest of Sri Lanka. Video released by INDOPACOM shows U.S. Navy helicopters deploying personnel from the USS John L. Canley (ESB-6), an expeditionary mobile base, onto the massive vessel in a "right-of-visit" boarding. No incidents or resistance were reported.

The DAVINA, a very large crude carrier (VLCC) with a capacity of up to 2 million barrels of oil, was sanctioned by the U.S. Treasury in October 2024 for its role in transporting Iranian crude oil, including shipments to China. It operates as part of Iran's "shadow fleet," using deceptive practices such as false registries (previously linked to Curaçao) to evade international sanctions.

PUTRAJAYA June 6, 2026 — Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced an additional allocation of RM50 million to strengthen Malaysia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) 2.0 programme, emphasising the need for practical skills and industry collaboration to prepare the workforce for a rapidly evolving economy.

Speaking at the National TVET Day 2026 celebration, Anwar stressed that formal education alone is insufficient to meet future industry demands. “Malaysia cannot rely solely on the education system to produce a workforce truly aligned with industry needs,” he said.

“In a fast-changing world, mastery of knowledge must be accompanied by practical skills, continuous training, and the ability to adapt to new economic requirements,” he added.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of stronger synergies between the government, universities, and industry players to provide graduates with real-world exposure and training.

TAMPA, Fla. (Life News Agency) — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces successfully intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles targeting Gulf neighbors and downed Iranian drones threatening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, followed by precision strikes on Iranian coastal radar sites.

According to the CENTCOM statement, Iran launched seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on June 5. U.S. and partner forces intercepted six of them, while the seventh failed to reach its intended target. No damage or casualties were reported from the missile attack.

Hours earlier, U.S. forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones headed toward the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM stated the drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic. In response, U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in Goruk and on Qeshm Island to neutralize further threats.

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6, 2026 – Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Federal Territory Kuala Lumpur has arrested 78 illegal immigrants (PATI) in a coordinated enforcement operation codenamed 'Ops Sapu' in the Jalan Klang Lama area today.

The operation was launched following public complaints and ongoing intelligence reports regarding the heavy presence of foreigners in the vicinity, which had raised concerns among local residents.

Most of those detained are believed to have committed various immigration offences, including failing to possess valid travel documents, overstaying their visas, and misusing social visit passes to work illegally in the country.

During the raid, JIM enforcement teams sealed off strategic locations around several business premises and residential areas to prevent any escape attempts. The surprise tactic effectively closed off all possible escape routes.
