I recently sat down with Jaime Crystal , Mia’s aunt, who wanted to address some of the questions everyone has been asking. Mia’s family knows how much love, concern, and support the public showed when she went missing, and they also recognize there are still unverified rumors circulating online.
We put together this Q&A directly from her family to bring clarity, clear up misunderstandings, and offer closure to everyone who cared.
Q: Why did Mia go missing, and what actually happened?
A: Mia never intended to run away from home permanently. She is a very sweet girl, but she just wanted to avoid a school assembly because she thought she was going to be called out for a minor, non-serious issue at school, and she wanted to dodge that whole discussion.
She planned with a friend to skip the assembly together they both really didn't think it would end up becoming such a big deal. However, once the search for her went public and blew up online, she became terrified that her mother would scold her even more. Her response then was to hide from her mother. She genuinely had no idea things would turn out the way they did.
Q: How was she found in the end?
A: In the end, Mia surrendered herself and came out on her own. A close friend had been keeping her safe at their house and looking out for her, even ordering food for her so she could eat. While it was done the wrong way, the friend was just trying to be protective and help her out. Once Mia realized the scale of what was happening, she came out on her own.
Q: Was Mia’s sister involved or helping her hide?
A: Not at all. Her sister didn't co-plot or know anything about Mia's plan. When they arrived at school that morning, her sister genuinely thought Mia was going inside or heading to the library. Please do not blame or speculate about her sister.
Q: Were the sightings in other towns true?
A: No. All reports of her being seen in other towns or districts were fake news and unverified rumors. Mia was safe in the local area with her friend the entire time.
Q: How is Mia doing now?
A: She is doing fine now. We brought her for a full medical checkup at the hospital, and everything came back completely okay. She has already started attending counseling sessions, and right now we are giving her the space, time, and emotional support she needs to settle back in.
Q: Looking back, what are your thoughts as a family?
A: It was a completely normal Monday morning, and none of us saw this coming. At the end of the day, Mia is still just a child, and children make mistakes as they grow up and learn to navigate their emotions. As parents and family, we realize that raising teenagers today is very different from how we were raised, you can't just rely on old-school discipline like the rotan anymore. Every child has a different personality. Instead of judgment, minors need our guidance, patience, and support when they stumble. Moving forward, we just want to pay closer attention, take responsibility, and support each other better as a family.
Q: What is your final message to the public?
A: We are deeply grateful to the community, the local search groups, sports clubs, and everyone online who helped spread the news so quickly and searched for her. Your support meant everything to us in our darkest hours.
Now that Mia is safe and home, we kindly ask the public to treat her with kindness, remember that she is still young, and grant our family the privacy needed to heal, complete her counseling, and move forward together.
