The iconic Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon returns for its 33rd edition on 18 October 2026, bringing around 250 elite and experienced mountain runners from Malaysia and around the world to take on one of the most challenging mountain races in the region.

Runners from countries including Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Italy, Russia, Spain, Thailand, USA and Vietnam will compete across the Menโ€™s Elite, Womenโ€™s Elite and Menโ€™s Veteran categories.

And thereโ€™s even more at stake this year!

The Climbathon makes its second appearance on the official Merrell Skyrunnerยฎ World Series, featuring 19 races across 12 countries and four continents. Mount Kinabalu will host Race 17 of the 2026 circuit, with around 20 World Series athletes expected to compete as they chase valuable points ahead of the SkyMasters Grand Finale in Spain.

Among the international stars expected on the mountain are Daniel Antonioli ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, Alex Oberbacher ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, Shoma Otagiri ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต, Svetlana Nurmukhametova ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ, Vanja Cnops ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ, June Villarroel ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ and Sandi Menchi Abahan ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ.

And of course, Sabahโ€™s own mountain runners will be ready to defend home ground, including Oswald Maikol, Jude Maikol, Sheron Sariman and returning Menโ€™s Veteran champion Daved Simpat. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

The Climbathon weekend kicks off on 17 October with the Timpohon Run 2026, a 10km race welcoming more than 350 runners.

๐ŸŒฟ Set within Kinabalu Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and UNESCO Global Geopark, the Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon is more than a race โ€” it is a celebration of endurance, adventure, nature and the spirit of Sabah.
