Not to say you shouldn't do temples, street parties, night markets and elephant sanctuaries in BKK — I've done some of that 8 years ago, on my first trip to this beautiful city; but I feel a brand new appreciation with this recent visit that is often left out of conversations when people share their trip.
I also feel like Bangkok is a city you can travel in any way you want.
I was more of an adventure traveler in my 20s, always seeking something new... pinching every minute and every dollar to experience as many new things as possible. Bangkok served me well in that era.
I'm more relaxed now, seeking spaces and activities that can easily integrate my routines while leaving generous time for surprises. A physio session is cheaper in Bangkok? Let's do it. There's golf lessons at a reasonable rate? Sign me up. Daily massages? No way I'm skipping that! Bangkok still serves me well.
All this to say there's more than one way to enjoy a destination. It's good to take inspiration from others but always ask yourself what you need from a trip and in what ways you can appreciate the city with your own eyes.
Share this with someone who wants to go to BKK with you — even if it may not be your first time.
More dumps soon, off to another flight for now. If you're still here, thanks for reading my essay type caption. You're the BEST! 🫶🏼
