Setting up a shot for food photography involves a combination of technical skill, artistic judgment, and preparation. It all starts with the freshest ingredients and the assemble. Plating the dish with attention to balance the negative space at the same time the product itself.
The lighting plays an even bigger role. The magic of light will elevate the colour, the drama and the high contrast look and feel. Natural light by the window is always not the case so setting up lights and pointing it in the right direction is crucial.
Everything is now set up and test shots are coming up! Here we analyze on composition and styling - making small adjustment, shifting props and adjusting lighting angle sometime more.
Finally the edit to enhance the shot, fine tuning the details but not over editing. Setting up food photography or in fact any type of photography requires a certain level of craftsmanship and creativity - something that I still find joy in doing all for a final visual.
