The hallowed GT3 designation has spanned over a quarter century of the finest driver focused Porsche 911s, and now evolves into its most sharply engaging yet even more versatile form with the 992.2 generation 911 GT3 & Touring having been unveiling at Sepang International Circuit. Long-time GT3 enthusiasts will find much to like with this one: it revs even quicker than before thanks to revised cylinder heads, flow-optimized individual throttle bodies, and more aggressive camshafts from the 911 GT3 RS; plus an 8% shorter final drive ratio for both the 7-speed PDK & 6-speed GT manual gearbox available on both variants.
That latter element proved to be no slouch to the GT3's performance capabilities either, with Jörg Bergmeister himself setting a blistering 6:56.294 Nürburgring-Nordschleife lap record with the manual GT3 Weissach earlier this April, making it the first manual production car to break the 7-minute barrier while beating its PDK predecessor by 3.633 seconds. No doubt that this impressive pace was also helped by more aerodynamic teardrop shaped trailing arms enhancing frontal downforce, and a front axle ball joint modified to induce an anti-dive geometry to make the GT3 less sensitive to aero pitch changes when braking hard on track.
Light-weighting measures include new carbon fiber-shelled folding bucket seats with removable headrest padding to make room for wearing helmets on circuit. There's also the Weissach package that adds a CFRP anti-roll bar, coupling rods and rear axle shear panel to sharpen things up even further.
Those who prefer to do their sporty driving more on the road aren't left out either: the more elegant GT3 Touring is also available right from the get-go, now with the added option of rear seats to help get even the kids in on that inimitable GT3 magic. Don't want to look like you're going soft all the way? Then spec yours with the Leichtbau Package that grants similar lightweight composite elements, plus the 911 S/T’s shortened gear lever for manual versions; this is truly the 911 GT3 you can have almost any way you want it.
