Film I was DoP on which won director Edmund Yeo Tokyo International Film Festival Best Director. Was on a steadicam the whole shoot. I used it roughly since I wanted a smoothed off handheld feel. Used a Samyang cine lens 35mm f/1.5 80% of the time, one focus puller and one lighting person with 2 led lights max. The frame you see here used one of my all time fav lens a USD20 35mm CCTV lens. Uncoated and crazy bokeh and flares. Shot on the OG Sony A7s. 1080, 50mbit on SLOG2. The scene with dead bodies from the boat, the lens got coated by sea spray and I decided to leave it on cos of the diffused dreamy look it gave, serendipity and genius that's what I call it. Short of money, a woman turns to human trafficking to make ends meet. Focusing in part on the Rohingyas’ flight to Malaysia to avoid persecution, the film is a poetic depiction of one woman’s spiritual journey.
