Outdoor Expo Malaysia 2025 took place from 25th to 27th July at Kompleks Sukan Kelana Jaya and proved to be a lively and memorable gathering for outdoor lovers across the country.

This large-scale lifestyle and trade event transformed the venue into a hub of excitement, where visitors of all ages immersed themselves in the world of camping, adventure, and eco-tourism.

From the latest outdoor gear and glamping setups to sustainable travel packages, exhibitors included outdoor brands, travel agencies, and conservation-focused organisations, all showcasing products and ideas that inspired attendees to reconnect with nature.

The event also served as a valuable platform for businesses to network and engage with potential customers in an interactive setting.

Across the three days, the grounds were filled with energy and activity. Families tried their hand at archery, kids zipped around on push-bikes, and thrill-seekers tested their skills in bushcraft and climbing zones.

There were competitions, safety demos, workshops, and even a community campfire session.

With food trucks, buskers, and the popular VegFest offering plant-based eats, there was plenty to keep both body and spirit nourished.

A key moment was the presentation of the Green Award, Best Decoration, and Safety Award to outstanding exhibitors. These recognitions underlined the event’s focus on responsible practices and environmental awareness.

Overall, Outdoor Expo Malaysia 2025 delivered an enriching experience that combined fun, learning, and a shared passion for the great outdoors.

Ballet Manila will return to Malaysia for another performance series, this time bringing the enchantment, romance, humour and happy ending of the popular fairy tale Cinderella as adapted into dance by artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde.

DanceLink and Ballet Manila are presenting Cinderella at the Stage 1 Theatre, PJPAC, in Petaling Jaya on these dates: September 5, 7:30 p.m.; September 6, 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and September 7, 3 p.m.

“I feel excited as it’s the second time Cinderella will be performed abroad, after Taiwan last year,” Macuja Elizalde enthuses. “It was the first in my Princess Trilogy (followed by Snow White and Sleeping Beauty) so it really has a special place in my heart. I have to say that Cinderella is turning out to have such a classic appeal to the whole family and I hope Malaysian audiences will enjoy it too.”

Two pairs of principal dancers are stepping into the lead roles of Cinderella and the Prince: Abigail Oliveiro and Mark Sumaylo; and Shaira Comeros and Joshua Enciso. Sumaylo and Enciso will also assume additional roles as the Dance Master and King opposite each other. Soloists Rissa May Camaclang and Stephanie Santiago will take turns waving the magic wand as the Fairy Godmother while soloist John Balagot plays the over-the-top Stepmother who fusses over her daughters (with Santiago and Camaclang alternating as the Tall Stepsister and principal dancers Jasmine Pia Dames and Jessica Pearl Dames as the Short Stepsister).

The Dames twins will also be alternating as the Scandinavian Princess while Shamira Drapete and Celine Astrologo switching as the Mediterranean Princess). Also in the cast are principal dancer Romeo Peralta as the Duke, company artist Anselmo Dictado as the Raccoon, soloist Sean Pelegrin and company artist Rodney Catubay as the Frogs, and Malaysian dancer Syaladin Antuan MD Nazir as the Mouse with a Cheese.

Like in previous tours where it has been taken to, Cinderella in Malaysia will also feature a wealth of local talents. “We are incorporating many Malaysian dancers into the production. So there are additional numbers and re-worked choreography in order to accomplish this. There are additional animals in the forest. In this case, bunnies and butterflies and a cheese-grabbing mouse. We also have an additional ballroom number in Act 2 as well as a search through two kingdoms,” shares Macuja Elizalde.

That her Cinderella ballet has come this far is totally unexpected for the artistic director and choreographer. “I’m surprised and very pleased! When I first created Cinderella, I knew what I wanted to create but I wasn’t confident that I could actually do it as I was just beginning to choreograph at that time. The success of Cinderella since its world premiere in 2016 has gone beyond my wildest dreams, really. And I do hope that the entire Princess Trilogy eventually will make its way abroad.”

Macuja Elizalde is also proud that Cinderella is the third production Ballet Manila will be bringing to Malaysia, after Ballet Manila’s Greatest Hits last year and Tour de Force in 2019. “We intend this to be an annual event. I am very grateful to DanceLink for the partnership. I am also very excited about future collaborations. Ballet Manila has a following already in KL and we intend to continue to nurture that.”

Tickets to Cinderella are available online at ONETIX (www.onetix.com.my) or at the PJPAC lobby.

𝐊𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐫, 𝟑 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – 1 Mont Kiara was buzzing with cheer and togetherness over the weekend as families from all walks of life gathered for the Family Day Fiesta on 28 and 29 June 2025. The two-day celebration brought the mall to life with engaging workshops, energetic performances, and heartwarming moments that bond families together.

From perfume making and chenille flower crafts to sock puppet sessions, the concourse was alive with creativity from noon to evening. Children and parents immersed themselves in hands-on activities, turning raw materials into handmade keepsakes while enjoying quality time together.

One of the highlights was the Parent & Kid Duo Fashion Contest held on 28 June. Contestants lit up the stage in imaginative royalty-themed outfits, sharing the spotlight with their little ones.

The winning duo, Leong Ee Ray Elroy and his mother Ally Kang, captivated the crowd in their majestic European royalty-inspired costumes. Elroy stole the show with an impromptu 1.5-minute tale titled Teeny and the Magic Lamp, delivering it with flair and confidence when prompted by the emcee. “I loved performing on stage and am happy to be able to share the moment with my mom,” said Elroy to the emcee, beaming with pride.

Annesmae Wang and her mother Ariel Lee claimed first runner-up with a striking Princess Aurora and Maleficent pairing, complete with stage presence and a mini magic show. Second runner-up went to Renesmae Wang, who wowed the audience with slick acrobatic moves in a Chinese princess outfit, alongside her grandfather Wang Qing Gui, dressed in an elegant Manchurian-style costume.

The champion mother-and-son duo took home RM300 worth of cash and prizes, while the first and second runners-up received RM200 and RM100 in cash and prizes, respectively. Consolation prize recipients each received prizes valued at RM50. As a bonus, the top three winners also earned a complimentary parent-child workshop session at Crafty Whizz Studio, worth RM259.80.

On 29 June, the stage welcomed a graceful Hawaiian Dance Performance by Hula KL in the evening, transporting the audience to island shores with rhythmic sways and floral flair.

Earlier that day, the Children’s Colouring Contest brought together 89 young participants. Children took to their canvases with crayons, markers and colour pencils, letting their imaginations run free in a warm, supportive environment cheered on by parents and friends.

The Children’s Colouring Contest awarded winners across three categories with a mix of cash and prize hampers. In Category A, five participants received Excellent Awards prizes worth RM50 each.

Category B and Category C recognised the top three winners with RM200, RM150, and RM100 in cash and prizes respectively. In both categories, five additional participants received consolation prizes worth RM50 each. The generous prizes added extra excitement and encouragement for the young artists, making it a rewarding experience for all.

“This weekend was all about creating meaningful moments between parents, children, and even grandparents,” said Ooi Wai Sheng, Executive for Advertising & Promotions at 1 Mont Kiara. “As a family-focused mall, we aim to be more than just a shopping destination—we want to be a place where families come together, bond through shared experiences, and leave with lasting memories.”

𝐊𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠, 𝟑𝟎 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – Success doesn’t happen overnight—it’s the result of relentless passion and hard work. This was the message from NO IDea, the 13-member dance crew who pulled off an incredible feat by winning both the Klang Parade Qualifier and the Grand Finals of the Klang Parade K-Pop Dance Cover Competition 2025, all within two days.

When they were crowned Champion during the Klang Parade Qualifier on 28 June, the team was already overjoyed. Little did they expect that their journey would peak again the next day at the Grand Finals, taking home the coveted Champion title once more.

“We really had no idea this would happen. It still feels unreal,” said Daniel Tiew, the 29-year-old leader of NO IDea, moments after the announcement. “All our hard work over the past 2 to 3 months has finally paid off.”

As the results were revealed, emotions ran high—many of the team members teared up before stepping on stage to collect their prizes, which totalled RM5,000 worth of cash and prizes.

For Daniel and his team, the road to success hasn’t been easy. “We don’t belong to any established dance studio, so we’ve had to rent space for every practice session,” he shared. “But we keep pushing because of our love for dance. We’re still building our stage experience, and I hope that one day, I’ll be able to open a studio of our own.”

When asked about their plans for the prize money, Daniel said with a smile, “We’ll definitely have a small celebration. The team deserves it after all their sacrifices. And we’ll share the prizes, just as we share the joy of this win.”

This year’s competition circuit saw qualifiers held at CITTA Mall, Ipoh Parade, and Klang Parade over the past three weeks, culminating in the Grand Finals where 17 top-performing teams battled it out for glory.

Judged on K-Pop Identity, Dance Cover Accuracy, Dance Techniques, Costume, and Overall Performance, the competition drew praise from all three judges—Tiffany Teoh, Ming Yang, and Brenda Koh—who were impressed by the passion and energy showcased on stage.

𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐚𝐲𝐚, 𝟏𝟑 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 – On the third floor of CITTA Mall, a desert is quietly coming to life.

Behind this transformation is Koh Kuan Meng, affectionately known as Ah Boy, founder of Cactus Boy Nursery. More than a cactus seller, Ah Boy is a desert ecologist at heart—recreating an authentic original desert ecosystem on an open-air balcony, in the middle of the city.

“I’m not just growing cacti. I’m replicating where they truly belong,” Ah Boy says. “The desert is harsh, but perfectly balanced. That balance is what I’m bringing here.”

He adds, “It’s fascinating to see how these cacti thrive in their original, bare environment. Their appearances may not be flawless—but those scratches and blemishes are like battle scars, telling the story of survival in the wild.”

At the far end of the sun-drenched third-floor balcony, he has built a living landscape—fine-tuning soil mixtures, light exposure, drainage, and airflow to simulate the rugged conditions of places like the Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts.

This isn’t just a plant display—it’s a functioning ecosystem. Euphorbias rise among volcanic rocks. Lithops nestle between pebbles.

And most recently, a stunning collection of giant Golden Barrel cacti has joined the family—glowing under the sun, adding both drama and authenticity to the space.

These fast-growing, flowering cacti are cherished not only for their striking form but also for their association with good fortune in feng shui. The current collection features mature specimens, each averaging between 40 to 55 years old—a testament to their resilience and longevity.

Visitors pause in wonder. Some leave with a cactus. Others leave with inspiration.

Ah Boy documents every change—how plants adapt to the Klang Valley’s humidity, how different soils affect growth, and how microclimates shift with the day. The balcony has become a living lab, and a love letter to nature’s quiet resilience.

So the next time you’re at CITTA Mall, head to the third floor. Step onto the balcony. You might forget you’re still in the city.

𝐊𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐋𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐫, 𝟐𝟎 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 - From 14 to 18 May, 1 Mont Kiara transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and climate awareness as H.O.P.E. (Helping Our Planet Everyday) welcomed visitors for a series of hands-on, sustainability-focused activities.

One of the highlights of the event was the Eco Story-Telling Contest, held on 18 May. Children aged 12 and under took the stage to deliver original stories under the theme “The Magic of Sustainability”. From enchanted forests and talking pandas to everyday eco-heroes, their performances were filled with humour, heart, and powerful messages.

Eight-year-old Felice Cheng Yok Yuan took home the champion title with a compelling tale on the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Dressed in a tan safari-like outfit with sturdy black boots and carrying a bold orange reusable tote bag as a prop, she impressed judges and the audience alike with her eloquence and stage presence. Felice walked away with RM500 worth of cash and prizes.

At the heart of the mall’s ground floor atrium, the H.O.P.E. Recycled Art Exhibition featured 30 selected entries from a total of 48 submissions received between 14 April and 13 May. The artworks — ranging from dioramas and collages to sculptures and figurines — were built entirely from discarded materials.

Visitors marvelled at the creativity on display, including the winning piece by 39-year-old Tang Wai Yee, who walked away with RM500 in cash and prizes. Her artwork, titled “Together We Recycle for a Better Future,” depicted a turtle and whale made from layered cardboard, newspaper, and plastics, set in a transparent display case filled with marine-themed debris. The work served as a visual reminder of the lasting impact human waste has on ocean life.

Throughout the 5-day event, visitors contributed old gadgets at the E-Waste Collection Corner and participated in hands-on workshops like EcoCraft and Upcycled Leaf Arts & Crafts. The event mascot, Mr Plasticman, made his cheerful walkabouts, offering reusable tote bags in exchange for plastic ones — reinforcing the message of daily sustainable habits.

The event concluded with a lively award ceremony celebrating both the storytellers and the artists. Each performance and piece reinforced the central message of the initiative: environmental awareness begins with creativity, conversation, and community.

"H.O.P.E. was created to show that sustainability can be approachable, creative, and community-led," said Ooi Wai Sheng, Executive for Advertising & Promotions at 1 Mont Kiara. "We were thrilled to see so many families and individuals participate — not just to learn, but to contribute ideas, art, and stories that remind us of our shared role in protecting the planet."

The event was made possible with the support of its community-minded partners: Lions Club of Sunway Damansara Metro, PJ Eco Recycling Plaza, LIFE Initiatives for Environment (LIFE), Project Careton, and Tetra Pak Malaysia — each playing a key role in encouraging practical action for a more sustainable future.

With strong turnout and enthusiastic feedback, 1 Mont Kiara plans to continue championing sustainability through future editions of H.O.P.E., reaffirming its commitment to shaping a greener, more conscious community.

Kuala Lumpur, 30 April 2025 – Home cooking took centre stage at 1 Mont Kiara on Sunday as eight passionate home chefs battled it out in the first-ever Prego Home Chef Live Showdown. Held at the
mall’s vibrant concourse area, the competition brought culinary skills to life as contestants competed for the coveted title and a grand prize of RM2,000. All eight had earned their place after winning Prego’s earlier ‘Master the Menu’ contest, qualifying them for this live cook-off.

The event, organised by Prego and hosted at 1 Mont Kiara, consisted of two rounds: a preliminary cook-off and a high-stakes final where only two chefs advanced. In the preliminary round, contestants were judged by food content creator Nurul Ain and professional chef Jay, founder of Base Pasta & Bistro. The final round placed the decision in the hands of the audience, who voted for the ultimate winner.

Emerging as the champion was Jeanette Faustina Effendi, who impressed both judges and the crowd despite facing hurdles during the competition. It marked her first-ever live cooking contest — and her first experience preparing food with plastic gloves. Jeanette’s opening dish, a Chicken Parmigiana featuring tomato-based pasta topped with fried chicken and melted cheese, drew praise for its subtle Japanese flavour, a nod to her inspiration from chicken katsu.

In the final round, the top two contestants faced a new challenge: creating a dish for ten people within 45 minutes using Prego ingredients and two shrimps. Jeanette adapted quickly, preparing a cream-based pasta accented with lemon juice to balance the richness, while finely mincing the shrimps as the dish’s main protein. Her careful attention to flavour and balance helped her edge out fellow finalist Siti Zaitun by a single vote from the enthusiastic crowd.

Even after injuring her finger with a knife during the competition, Jeanette remained calm and carried on. “I just joined for fun and didn’t expect to win. I'm used to cooking for my friends who often come over every weekend — sometimes up to 15 people,” she shared.

The Prego Home Chef Live Showdown celebrated culinary creativity while showcasing resilience and resourcefulness in the kitchen, inspiring home cooks across Malaysia to continue sharing their passion through hearty meals.

Reflecting on the event, Ivy Chew, Centre Manager of 1 Mont Kiara, said, “Prego Malaysia chose our mall for its shopper demographics, which align with their brand. Having Village Grocer on our Lower
Ground floor, well-stocked with Prego products, made it easy to source additional ingredients during the competition. We are proud to support avid home chefs and look forward to hosting more events that promote healthy home cooking in our community.”
