One of the highlights of the event was the Eco Story-Telling Contest, held on 18 May. Children aged 12 and under took the stage to deliver original stories under the theme “The Magic of Sustainability”. From enchanted forests and talking pandas to everyday eco-heroes, their performances were filled with humour, heart, and powerful messages.
Eight-year-old Felice Cheng Yok Yuan took home the champion title with a compelling tale on the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Dressed in a tan safari-like outfit with sturdy black boots and carrying a bold orange reusable tote bag as a prop, she impressed judges and the audience alike with her eloquence and stage presence. Felice walked away with RM500 worth of cash and prizes.

At the heart of the mall’s ground floor atrium, the H.O.P.E. Recycled Art Exhibition featured 30 selected entries from a total of 48 submissions received between 14 April and 13 May. The artworks — ranging from dioramas and collages to sculptures and figurines — were built entirely from discarded materials.
Visitors marvelled at the creativity on display, including the winning piece by 39-year-old Tang Wai Yee, who walked away with RM500 in cash and prizes. Her artwork, titled “Together We Recycle for a Better Future,” depicted a turtle and whale made from layered cardboard, newspaper, and plastics, set in a transparent display case filled with marine-themed debris. The work served as a visual reminder of the lasting impact human waste has on ocean life.

Throughout the 5-day event, visitors contributed old gadgets at the E-Waste Collection Corner and participated in hands-on workshops like EcoCraft and Upcycled Leaf Arts & Crafts. The event mascot, Mr Plasticman, made his cheerful walkabouts, offering reusable tote bags in exchange for plastic ones — reinforcing the message of daily sustainable habits.
The event concluded with a lively award ceremony celebrating both the storytellers and the artists. Each performance and piece reinforced the central message of the initiative: environmental awareness begins with creativity, conversation, and community.
"H.O.P.E. was created to show that sustainability can be approachable, creative, and community-led," said Ooi Wai Sheng, Executive for Advertising & Promotions at 1 Mont Kiara. "We were thrilled to see so many families and individuals participate — not just to learn, but to contribute ideas, art, and stories that remind us of our shared role in protecting the planet."
The event was made possible with the support of its community-minded partners: Lions Club of Sunway Damansara Metro, PJ Eco Recycling Plaza, LIFE Initiatives for Environment (LIFE), Project Careton, and Tetra Pak Malaysia — each playing a key role in encouraging practical action for a more sustainable future.
With strong turnout and enthusiastic feedback, 1 Mont Kiara plans to continue championing sustainability through future editions of H.O.P.E., reaffirming its commitment to shaping a greener, more conscious community.
