AI automation and agentic AI are not quite the same thing.
Traditional automation follows a predefined path:
Trigger → Action → Result
For example:
A customer submits a form → their details enter the CRM → a confirmation email is sent.
An agentic AI system can work differently.
It can receive an objective, examine available information, decide what needs to happen, use different tools, evaluate the outcome, and determine the next action.
Think:
Automation: “When X happens, do Y.”
Agentic AI: “Here’s the objective. Work out what needs to happen next within these rules.”
Businesses are moving from automating individual tasks to designing systems capable of handling parts of an entire workflow.
