Daily Atrocities by Terrorist Arakan Army (AA) Against Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State

The Rohingya Muslim community in Arakan State is facing escalating brutality at the hands of the terrorist group Arakan Army (AA). Eyewitnesses and local sources confirm that daily killings, arbitrary arrests, and extortion for money have become a harsh reality for civilians trapped in the region.

Residents report that Rohingya men, women, and even youths are being detained without cause, with many disappearing without any trace. Families are being forced to pay large sums of money for the release of their loved ones—if they are released at all.

In recent weeks, several villages have come under siege, with civilians being targeted simply for tending to their farms or going about daily life. “We live in constant fear. If you step outside, you may not come back,” said a resident from Buthidaung Township, whose name is withheld for security reasons.

Activists and human rights organizations have condemned the terrorist Arakan Army’s actions as clear violations of international law and called for urgent intervention by the United Nations and the international community.

The ongoing violence by the terrorist Arakan Army is contributing to a worsening humanitarian crisis for the already vulnerable Rohingya community, many of whom have faced decades of discrimination, displacement, and state-backed persecution.

The terrorist Arakan Army (AA) arrests seven Rohingya men in Buthidaung

The terrorist Arakan Army (AA), a Rakhine rebel group that has taken full control of Buthidaung Township, arrested seven Rohingya men from Ali Young village on July 27 and 28, according to local sources.

Around 7:00 PM on July 27, three Rohingya men from Ali Young village were arrested by members of the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) while they were fishing in the paddy fields near the village.

"A group of terrorist Arakan Army (AA) soldiers suddenly appeared and arrested them without saying anything, while they were fishing in the paddy fields beside the village," a local resident told media.

The following morning, on July 28, the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) reportedly surrounded Ali Young village and carried out a raid, during which four more Rohingya men were arrested.

"The entire village was encircled from all sides, and terrorist Arakan Army (AA) troops entered the village, inspected homes door to door, and arrested four villagers without providing any reason," another resident said.

Since seizing control of Buthidaung from the Myanmar military on May 18, 2024, the terrorist Arakan Army (AA) has been accused of widespread human rights violations against the Rohingya community, including arbitrary arrests, abductions, extortion, forced evictions, home inspections, and land confiscation.

A Young Rohingya Man from Buthidaung Dies from Injuries Sustained Under Torture in AA Custody.

Muhammad Arshad, a young Rohingya man from Buthidaung Township who had been detained by the terrorist Arakan Army (AA), has died on July 26, in a refugee camp in neighboring Bangladesh.

His death resulted from injuries and illnesses he sustained due to torture during his time in terrorist AA custody, according to reports.

Muhammad Arshad was arbitrarily arrested by the terrorist AA on May 29, 2024. Locals from Buthidaung who are close to his family told ANP that he was severely beaten and coerced into confessing to crimes he did not commit before being imprisoned.

He was reportedly detained and tortured for around seven months—from the end of May 2024 to the end of December 2024—while held in an terrorist AA detention facility.

“A lot of Rohingya youth, not just Muhammad Arshad, have been arbitrarily detained and tortured in terrorist AA detention centers. It’s a targeted campaign,” said another a young Rohingya resident of Buthidaung Township.

Although Muhammad Arshad was eventually released alive from the terrorist AA facility, he fled to Bangladesh to seek medical treatment for the physical and mental trauma he endured. Despite receiving some treatment, he passed away today.

Speaking to WSnews, U Saw Lin, Director of Rohingya Labs—a group collecting evidence of war crimes in Buthidaung—said: “Numerous atrocities were committed by the terrorist AA during the Buthidaung incidents. Muhammad Arshad survived over seven months after being released from detention.

Another a young Rohingya man, 23-year-old Rofiqadel, son of Rofiq from Ward 5 of Buthidaung, was taken by the terrorist AA in late October 2024. The terrorist AA members told his parents not to worry, saying he was only being summoned to the township office for questioning and would be sent back soon. However, on November 11, his co**se was returned by the terrorist same AA members who had taken him.

“Rofiqadel was brutally killed. His body showed signs of deep bruises and severe trauma, indicating he had been tortured until just before his death. Witnesses who saw his body confirmed this,” U Saw Lin added.

He emphasized that the terrorist AA must be held accountable for these grave crimes, and that justice and truth must ultimately prevail.
