Advancing Environmental Resilience: New GRIM Early Detection Station Installed in Belaga 🌿📡

I was honored to represent the Pejabat Daerah Belaga at the recent installation of the GRIM (Green Initiatives, Resources, and Environmental Sustainability) station, a milestone project by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak.

As Belaga continues to develop, maintaining superior air quality is non-negotiable. This new installation is not just a sensor—it is a sophisticated Early Detection System designed to safeguard our community’s health and our natural heritage.

Key Technical Highlights:

🔹 Proactive Air Pollution Detection: The station utilizes high-precision sensors to monitor the Air Pollutant Index (API) in real-time, allowing us to detect shifts in air quality (such as PM2.5 or PM10 levels) before they become a public health concern.

🔹 Data-Driven Governance: By feeding localized data directly into the NREB’s management system, the Belaga District Office can now make faster, more informed decisions regarding open burning, land use, and public safety.

🔹 Strategic Early Warning: This "Early Detection" capability serves as a critical 24/7 watchman, providing the data needed for rapid response during the dry season or transboundary haze events.

Through this collaboration with NREB Sarawak, Pejabat Daerah Belaga is embracing Digital Sarawak 2030 goals. We are ensuring that the heart of Sarawak remains green, breathable, and sustainable for generations to come.

THE BIG DAY, SPM.

I am still shaking with excitement as I write this. Seeing your SPM results, those 6As, that 1B, and your 2Cs has filled my heart with so much joy and relief. I hope you can feel the biggest, warmest hug coming all the way from here.

I know how many late nights you spent at your desk, the moments you felt overwhelmed, and the sheer discipline you showed to get through those exams.

Seeing it all written there in black and white makes it official: your hard work truly paid off. Every bit of effort you put in has led you to this moment, and you should be so incredibly happy with what you've achieved.

It tugs at my heartstrings that I can’t be there right beside you today to see your face, hear the excitement in your voice, and celebrate this milestone in person. Nothing would have made me happier than to witness your "big day" and share that first moment of triumph with you.

Please know that even from a distance, I am celebrating you. Take a moment to breathe it all in and enjoy this victory. You’ve earned every bit of it!

Rewriting the Heart of Our Heritage

Hari Raya Aidilfitri is fundamentally a celebration of fitrah, marking a spiritual return to a state of purity and peace after a month of discipline.

At its heart, the festival is defined by the profound tradition of Maaf Zahir dan Batin, where seeking and granting forgiveness clears the emotional debts of the past year.

This practice transforms simple visits into powerful acts of community bonding, as the "Open House" culture dissolves social barriers and brings neighbors of all backgrounds together.

These gatherings are the lifeblood of the season, where the simple act of sharing a meal becomes a masterclass in empathy and hospitality.

To ensure these values endure, we must inspire the younger generation to look beyond the festive clothes and see the human connection behind every ritual.

We should encourage them to trade their screens for stories, learning that the true wealth of Raya is found in the wisdom of their elders and the warmth of a firm handshake.

By involving youth in the labor of preparation, from weaving ketupat to serving guests, they learn that belonging is something built through active participation.

Ultimately, when the young embrace these traditions, they become the vital guardians of a culture that prioritizes kindness and reconciliation over everything else.

The Kapit Divisional Administration convened a high-level strategic meeting today at the New World Hotel Suites to deliberate on the critical oversight of shotgun licensing and the management of government assets. Chaired by the Deputy Resident of Kapit, Mr. Robert Liman, the session brought together District Officers, Heads of Departments, and key management personnel to review current performance reports and refine existing administrative frameworks. This gathering underscores the Sarawak Government’s commitment to maintaining a rigorous and transparent governance structure, ensuring that every facet of divisional operations aligns with state-mandated standards.

A primary focus of the discussion involved the meticulous management of shotguns, a specialized administrative responsibility that requires constant monitoring and legal compliance. By reviewing current status reports, the leadership aims to strengthen the security and regulatory protocols that govern these items within the division. This process is integral to public safety and reflects the core management’s proactive stance in mitigating risks while ensuring that all procedures are handled with the highest level of professional integrity.

Parallel to fi****ms oversight, the meeting addressed the comprehensive stewardship of government assets. The administration focused on enhancing the accountability of public property through improved tracking and maintenance strategies. By fostering direct communication between various department heads, the Kapit Division ensures that resources are utilized efficiently and that asset lifecycles are managed sustainably. This collaborative approach not only optimizes operational costs but also reinforces the Sarawak Government’s broader objective of delivering an accountable and high-performing civil service.

BELAGA – Semangat perpaduan dan nilai murni menyantuni komuniti terus diperkukuh menerusi penganjuran Majlis Berbuka Puasa dan Pengagihan Kurma anjuran Jawatankuasa (JK) Perpaduan N65 Belaga yang berlangsung di Masjid Darul Taqwa, semalam.

Majlis yang penuh keberkatan ini dimulakan dengan ucapan aluan oleh Penghulu Abu Talip Bin Mohammad Mokthar, selaku Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Perpaduan N65 Belaga. Dalam ucapannya, beliau menekankan kepentingan menjaga keharmonian dan saling bantu-membantu dalam kalangan penduduk daerah ini, selari dengan tuntutan bulan Ramadan yang mulia.

Turut menyerikan majlis adalah kehadiran Yang Berhormat Datuk Liwan Lagang, Timbalan Menteri Utiliti dan Telekomunikasi Sarawak merangkap ADUN N65 Belaga. Beliau yang hadir ditemani isteri, meluangkan masa untuk beramah mesra dengan penduduk setempat, sekali gus membuktikan keprihatinan tinggi barisan kepimpinan terhadap kebajikan rakyat di peringkat akar umbi.

Majlis ini turut dihadiri oleh, Ketua-ketua Jabatan Daerah Belaga, Temenggong, Ketua-ketua Kaum (KMKK), komuniti Islam dan penduduk sekitar daerah Belaga.

Kemuncak majlis menyaksikan YB Datuk Liwan Lagang menyempurnakan simbolik pengagihan kurma kepada para hadirin. Inisiatif ini bukan sekadar tradisi tahunan, malah merupakan manifestasi kasih sayang dan perhatian pihak jawatankuasa terhadap komuniti bagi memastikan keceriaan Ramadan dapat dirasai bersama.

"Kehadiran kita pada hari ini bukan sahaja untuk berbuka puasa, tetapi untuk memperbaharui ikatan silaturahim antara pemimpin, ketua jabatan, dan rakyat. Inilah kekuatan sebenar Belaga," ujar salah seorang jawatankuasa penganjur.

Majlis kemudiannya diteruskan dengan bacaan doa berbuka puasa oleh Imam Masjid Daerah Belaga, diikuti dengan solat Maghrib berjemaah. Suasana harmoni yang ditampilkan mencerminkan kematangan warga Belaga dalam memelihara perpaduan meskipun dalam kepelbagaian.

BELAGA: Satu program agihan bakul makanan telah berjaya dilaksanakan dengan penuh semangat muhibah melibatkan komuniti dari Kampung Melayu dan Kampung Hijrah. Bertempat di Masjid Darul Taqwa, Daerah Belaga, program ini merupakan hasil kolaborasi strategik yang bertujuan untuk menyantuni golongan yang memerlukan dalam mendepani cabaran ekonomi semasa.

Inisiatif murni ini dijayakan melalui kerjasama erat dengan pihak SEB Murum, yang menunjukkan komitmen tinggi terhadap tanggungjawab sosial korporat (CSR) mereka. Kehadiran dan sokongan pihak korporat dalam program komuniti seumpama ini amatlah dihargai, memandangkan ia memberikan impak langsung kepada kesejahteraan penduduk setempat, khususnya di kawasan pedalaman.

Objektif utama agihan ini adalah untuk meringankan beban kewangan serta menyediakan keperluan asas bagi para penerima sepanjang menjalani ibadah di bulan Ramadan yang mulia. Selain bantuan material, program ini juga menjadi platform penting untuk memperkukuh hubungan silaturahim antara pihak agensi, sektor swasta, dan masyarakat awam.

Setinggi-tinggi penghargaan diucapkan kepada SEB Murum atas keprihatinan yang dizahirkan. Semoga usaha kolaboratif ini menjadi pemangkin kepada lebih banyak inisiatif kebajikan pada masa hadapan demi memastikan tiada golongan yang terpinggir daripada arus pembangunan dan bantuan sosial di Daerah Belaga.
