The Palestinian Foreign Ministry has said it views the strike on a refugee camp in the city of Jenin as a “dangerous escalation.”

The Israeli military said it launched an airstrike early Sunday against a mosque in the West Bank city of Jenin to thwart what it called "an imminent terror attack.”

“The Ministry views with great seriousness the bombing of the Jenin camp yesterday, and considers it a dangerous escalation using warplanes, resulting in Palestinian civilian casualties and terrorizing them, including children and women,” the Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement following the air strike.
It labelled the strike as “an attempt to generalize the model of bombing the Gaza Strip to areas in the occupied West Bank.”

The ministry also criticized the international community “for its failure to move so far to stop this Israeli killing and destruction against Gaza and its people, and considers that its responses are weak, selective and biased and do not rise to the level of the extent of the genocide that the Gaza Strip is being exposed to.”

At least 65 people were arrested in the occupied West Bank by Israeli forces overnight, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.

This takes the number of arrests since the beginning of October to more than 1,130, it said in a statement.

This figure does not include workers or detainees from Gaza, the statement noted.

CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment on the arrests.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club is a non-governmental organization dedicated to addressing the concerns of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons and detention centers, according to its website.

The death toll following an Israeli strike on a mosque in the occupied West Bank has risen to three, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

The strike took place in a refugee camp in the city of Jenin.

Separately, following clashes in Toubas and Nablus, two people were killed, the ministry said.

This brings the total number of those killed in the occupied West Bank since October 7 to 90.

The Israeli military said earlier that it had launched an airstrike early Sunday local time against a mosque in Jenin to thwart what it called "an imminent terror attack."

Indian aid for Gaza departed for Egypt on Sunday, according to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

An Indian Air Force plane “carrying nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief material for the people of Palestine” had left for Egypt’s El-Arish airport, the MEA wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“The material includes essential life-saving medicines, surgical items, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, sanitary utilities, water purification tablets among other necessary items,” the post continued.
The Rafah Crossing opened briefly on Saturday, allowing 20 trucks of aid to pass through. It is unclear whether it will reopen on Sunday.

The Syrian state news agency has reported air strikes against both Damascus and Aleppo airports in the early hours of Sunday.

"At approximately 5:25 a.m. today, the Israeli enemy simultaneously carried out an air aggression with bursts of missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea west of Latakia and from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting the international airports of Damascus and Aleppo," the agency reported, citing a military source.
The agency said one worker at Damascus airport had been killed and another wounded.

It said damage to the runways at both airports had put them out of service and that air traffic was being diverted to the city of Latakia.

Israeli airstrikes on north and central Gaza killed at least 29 people overnight, the Hamas-run Ministry of Interior in Gaza said in a statement early Saturday.

The ministry said at least 14 people were killed in airstrikes on Jabalia in northern Gaza.

In an earlier statement the ministry claimed that the airstrikes were “targeting” residential homes.

CNN cannot independently verify those claims. CNN has reached out to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for comment.

Since October 7, according to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health, 4,127 people have died in the violence in Gaza, including 1,661 children.

The US is allowing Israel to make its own calls on timing and strategy in its war with Hamas, but US President Joe Biden did weigh in on the matter during his visit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the war cabinet in Tel Aviv earlier this week, according to a senior administration official.

“He asked some hard questions” about what was being planned and what the effects would be, the official told CNN, adding: “We’re not directing the Israelis, the timeline is theirs – their thinking, their planning.”

The White House late Friday sought to clarify a brief comment made by Biden after he was asked by a reporter whether Israel should delay a ground invasion in Gaza until more hostages could get out. As he climbed the stairs to Air Force One, the president responded, “Yes.”

The White House immediately moved to explain the president’s comments.

“The president was far away. He didn’t hear the full question. The question sounded like ‘Would you like to see more hostages released?’ He wasn’t commenting on anything else,” White House communications director Ben LaBolt said less than an hour later.

Earlier Friday, Hamas released two American hostages in a deal brokered by the Qatari government. A number of foreign nationals were among those kidnapped by Hamas, but information about the status, location and identity of all the hostages remains scarce.

As CNN has reported, the US and its allies have been urging Israel to be strategic and clear about its goals if and when it launches a ground invasion of Gaza, warning against a prolonged occupation and placing a particular emphasis on avoiding civilian casualties, according to US and Western officials.

At the home of Rabbi Meir Hecht in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, the release of two American hostages from Hamas came as a miracle to the congregation.

Rabbi Hecht's wife, Yehudis Hecht, lit two candles to usher in Shabbat just before 6 p.m. Central time Friday after they received news of the release of Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter, Natalie Raanan.

They did so to “thank God for miracles and pray for continued miracles for all of Israel."

“It’s been unreal. We love Judith, and obviously our hearts were turned upside down, broken,” Yehudis Hecht said.
“We are beyond grateful and we pray that they have quick healing from all that they’ve endured.”
Rabbi Hecht told reporters that the hearts of the members of his synagogue – which Judith attends – "are filled with overflowing gratitude to the almighty God for his kindness and for this miracle that we have seen before our eyes.”

Judith and Natalie were two out of the 200 people abducted by Hamas and Rabbi Hecht said they will continue to pray for the release of "every single one of those hostages" in the "hands of vile, vicious, savage murderers and terrorists, Hamas."

About a dozen members of Hecht’s synagogue had also gathered at his home Friday night.

Sarah Neikrug, a 47-year-old HR worker in Evanston, said she did not know the Raanans personally, but was “surprised, happy, in shock, elated” by the release of Judith and Natalie.

The Raanans, who are from Chicago, had been visiting relatives in Nahal Oz, a farming community in southern Israel, when they were taken hostage on October 7, according to their family.

Hospitals in Gaza are "on the brink of collapse," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned, saying that the number of patients treated or waiting to be treated is at 150% of the hospitals' capacity, and people are lying on the floors and corridors.

It said 60% of primary healthcare facilities have shut down in Gaza, while hospitals are struggling to operate amid shortages of power, medicine, equipment and specialized personnel.

"Only eight (out of 22) of UNRWA health centers in Middle, Khan Younis and Rafah governorates are providing primary health care services to critical outpatients and patients in need of treatment for non-communicable diseases," the statement said.
The water situation in Gaza also remains dire. The last functioning desalination plant shut down last Sunday due to lack of fuel, as did the last functioning wastewater treatment plant, the UN reported.

"Water production from municipal groundwater sources is at less than 5% of the pre-hostilities level. The three seawater desalination plants, which, prior to the hostilities produced seven per cent of Gaza’s water supply, are currently not operational. Water trucking operations came to a halt in most areas due to the lack of fuel, insecurity and roads blocked by debris,” OCHA said.
“Bottled water is largely unavailable, and its price has made it unaffordable for most families. Private vendors, who operate small water desalination and purification plants, which are mostly run by solar energy, became the main suppliers of clean drinking water," the OCHA statement added.

Sanitation is deteriorating. All five wastewater treatments in Gaza have been shut down due to a lack of power, so a lot of sewage is being dumped in the sea, and "most of the 65 sewage pumping stations are not operational," according to OCHA. Trash is also piling up.

Food security is unstable. Three out of the five World Food Programme (WFP) bakeries in Gaza closed on Friday due to fuel shortages and lack of ingredients, OCHA said. Wheat flour across Gaza could run out in "about five days," and only one of the five mills in Gaza is currently running.

An employee at Caritas, a network of Catholic charitable organizations, was killed along with her family in the Greek Orthodox church compound that officials in Gaza say was hit in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday night, according to a statement by the organization on Friday.

"This morning we were devastated to learn of the death of our colleague Viola, 26, who was killed alongside her husband and their infant daughter in an airstrike attack on the St. Porphyrios Orthodox Church in Gaza," the statement said.

Caritas condemned what it described as "arbitrary and deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure" and called for a ceasefire to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid into the strip.

The Hamas-run Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that 17 people were killed in the Israeli airstrike on the church compound.

CNN cannot independently confirm the number of casualties. The Israel Defense Forces on Friday acknowledged that "a wall of a church in the area was damaged” as a result of a strike.

The Rafah crossing is not expected to open today for a convoy of humanitarian aid to get to Gaza, multiple sources told CNN, despite expectations voiced by US President Joe Biden and others that it would be open.

“I would not put money on those trucks going through tomorrow,” one source familiar with the discussions told CNN.

Road repairs need to be done on the Egyptian side of the buffer zone and there are a lot of other details to make sure the aid is sustained, not a one off, the source said.

It’s “a really volatile situation,” the person said. “These people have been waiting for food, for medicine and for water. If they’re told 20 trucks are coming in and we don’t know when is next it’s going to create a really dangerous situation. If I were in that situation, if I didn’t think there would be more trucks, I’d do everything I could to get what’s inside.”
US officials now expect that the first convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian aid into Gaza from Egypt will cross the border this weekend, possibly by Saturday.

A US official cautioned that the situation remained fluid as preparations continued to allow the humanitarian aid through.

US State Department spokesperson Matt Miller said at a briefing Thursday afternoon that former Ambassador David Satterfield, the US special envoy for Middle East humanitarian assistance, was “on the ground negotiating with the Israelis” and working on the details “even as we speak.”

“With respect to trucks, I don't want to speak to what the exact agreement will look like because that is a matter that continues to be negotiated, that Ambassador Satterfield is on the ground negotiating,” Miller said.

The agreement is for 20 trucks but there are 200 parked outside so aid could be sustained if there’s an agreement.

Israel is going to want to be involved in the control mechanism, the source says, to make sure they approve what’s going in.

“Things can change quickly for the better and for the worse,” they said.

Miller on Thursday reiterated that the concerns voiced by the Israeli government that Hamas will try to divert the assistance for Gaza and noted “we think that's a legitimate concern.”

Speaking to reporters en route back to the US from Israel Wednesday, Biden said Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi agreed to open the Rafah crossing to “let up to 20 trucks through to begin with.” The road into Gaza had to be fixed and potholes filled before the trucks could pass, the president said. He said it would take about eight hours on Thursday to get the work done, and he expected the trucks to be rolling Friday.

On Thursday, Egyptian state media and an Egyptian security official also indicated that the crossing would be open Friday.

Early Friday morning, CNN's Nic Robertson witnessed increased military activity along Israel's border with Gaza.

Several illumination flares are seen floating down in the distance, while red tracer rounds can be seen accompanied by the sound of heavy machine gun fire.

In the video, Robertson recalled hearing heavy machine gun fire, and distant explosions.

CNN is unable to provide further detail on the type of military activity seen along the border.

When asked for comment on the military activity, Israel Defense Forces Spokesperson Lt. Colonel Jonathan Conricus told Burnett, "The reserves are ready, equipped, mission-oriented, and standing by for the next stage of our operations. But at this time, of course, we will not advertise when, where, and how we will advance or do or enhance our military activities."
Israeli politicians have given Israel's military the "green light" to enter Gaza, officials told Robertson on Thursday, and it is now up to the military to decide when to go in.
