Remarkable Travelers: Many species are migratory, escaping cold northern winters by flying from places like Siberia, China, and Japan to tropical climates in Malaysia between September and April.
Masters of Camouflage & Balance: They are known to stand effortlessly on one leg for extended periods to conserve body heat and energy.
Changing Colors: During mating season, their stark white feathers can transform, growing beautiful golden or orange plumes on their chests and heads, accompanied by bright red bills and legs.
The "Buffalo Cult" (Bangau Kerbau): Certain egrets actively follow livestock like buffaloes and cows. They pick off insects and grasshoppers disturbed by the grazing animals—a highly efficient, energy-saving hunting method.
