A Cry for Help from Southern Benue Igbo Communities.
The Igbo communities in southern Benue State—particularly in Obi, Oju, and Ado Local Government Areas—are under siege. These peaceful and hardworking people are facing relentless attacks by armed Fulani militants. Homes are being destroyed, families torn apart, and innocent lives lost. Entire communities have been displaced, forced to flee into the forests with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
As a minority group in Benue, the Igbos in these areas have long been marginalized and overlooked. Now, in the face of violent ethnic cleansing, they are more vulnerable than ever. Children are growing up amid fear, hunger, and trauma. Elderly people, women, and men are left without shelter, medical care, or hope. Yet their cries for help go largely unheard by the broader public and government.
We call on the Igbo people of the South-East and South-South regions: this is a time for unity. Our brothers and sisters in southern Benue need us—morally, materially, and politically. Let us not forget them. Their lives matter. Their suffering is our suffering.
We also urge human rights organizations, the media, and the international community to shine a light on this crisis and pressure the Nigerian government to act decisively.
This is not just a regional issue. It is a humanitarian emergency. Justice, peace, and protection are long overdue for the Igbo communities in Obi, Oju, and Ado.
