The Lin Xiang Xiong Art Gallery prepares to open its doors on 14 December 2025 along The Light Waterfront in Gelugor, Penang. The eight-storey structure spans 86,929 square feet and represents a RM100 million investment in Malaysia's cultural landscape.
Construction has finished. The team now installs over 300 original artworks alongside a rotating collection exceeding 1,000 pieces. These works trace Professor Lin Xiang Xiong's six-decade journey across Asia and Europe.
The architecture draws inspiration from the turtle, a symbol woven through Chinese culture representing longevity, kindness, and prosperity. The form mirrors Penang Island's own identity. The design merges ocean-inspired elements with functional spaces across multiple floors.
Professor Lin Xiang Xiong founded this space to embody his philosophy of "Art for Peace." His vision positions Malaysia as a cultural bridge connecting Eastern and Western artistic traditions. The gallery will host international symposiums, guest artist showcases, and educational programmes designed to foster cross-cultural understanding.
The building includes dedicated exhibition areas. One floor offers office space for rent alongside retail and dining areas overlooking the Penang coastline. This mix brings art into daily life rather than separating cultural experience from functional space.
Professor Lin left China for Singapore in 1956. He studied at the Academy of Arts from 1965 to 1968. Business success in Malaysia's mining industry funded his artistic pursuits and international travels. His painting style combines abstraction with traditional techniques, addressing climate change, war, migration, and the human condition.
In 2016, he curated a UNESCO exhibition titled "Art for Peace β Cultural Dialogue between East and West." UNESCO documented and archived the resulting cultural dialogues. He has published 8 painting collections and 27 volumes of essays and art criticism.
