【Dennis Along: A True Fighter and Brother】

Good morning/afternoon, everyone.

We gather today with heavy hearts, but also with immense gratitude for the life of a truly extraordinary
man – Dennis Along. For many of us, he was more than just a colleague or an acquaintance; he was
a true friend, a brother in arms, and a fearless champion for justice.

It’s hard to imagine a world without Dennis, whose very presence was a beacon of hope and strength
for so many of us, especially in the relentless fight for indigenous rights here in Sarawak.

A Heart as Big as His Cause
Dennis had a kind and truly big heart. He poured his entire life, his precious time, and every resource
he had into the causes he believed in so deeply. He wasn't just an activist; he was a warm, caring
friend, and a true brother to everyone he met. His dedication wasn't just a part of his life; it was his
life. He lived and breathed the fight for justice, always with an unwavering spirit of compassion.

The Unwavering Fighter for Anak Sarawak
For years, like many of you, I knew of Dennis through the news and social media. I'd read about his
relentless efforts and his unwavering stand for the rights of indigenous people and justice in Sarawak.
He was, and always will be, a true fighter for anak Sarawak.

I was incredibly honored to finally meet him personally at a community forum. Those few days,
listening to his vision and his powerful sharing, seeing with my own eyes his passion and his absolute
commitment, were profoundly valuable and truly impactful for me. It was a privilege to learn from him
and to be inspired by every single facet of his work.

Dennis spent decades on the ground, facing countless challenges and enduring setbacks. Yet, he
never seemed exhausted, and he certainly never gave up. He rose every single time he fell, and he
marched forward without fear, always – and I mean always – for our people, for our families, for us
Sarawakians.

His Enduring Legacy
Dennis embodied a fighter's spirit that profoundly inspired me to believe and to stay focused on my
own journey in activism, community service, and politics. His legacy isn't just in the tangible changes
he brought about, but in the countless lives he touched and the hearts he ignited. He taught us
perseverance, true courage, and the deep meaning of selfless service.

A Man Remembered Forever
To Dennis's family, please know that he was indeed a great man, a huge figure with a big heart that
inspired each of us in profound ways.

He may be gone from our sight for now, but he will always be there in our memory and will stay in our
hearts forever. His spirit, his fight, and his unwavering belief will continue to guide and inspire us all.

May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

【In Memory of Denis Along (1968–2025)】

At 5:46am on June 27, 2025, we lost a true fighter - Denis Along.

He was from Long Terawan, deep in the interior of Mulu, and belonged to the Tering community.
But Denis didn’t just speak for his own people — he stood up for all of Sarawak’s indigenous communities.
He believed in justice, and he worked hard for a better, fairer Sarawak, Malaysia.

In the final years of his life, Denis was unwell, but he never stopped.
Even while struggling with pain, he kept pushing forward —
writing letters to the Prime Minister and the Sarawak Premier,
visiting the MACC, the Sarawak forestry department, the police station....
always speaking up, always fighting for those without a voice.

Denis was one of the most regularly interviewed activists on Radio Free Sarawak.
He was honest, determined, and never afraid to name those in power.
He spoke clearly about land rights, about corruption, about injustice.
From Miri to Kuching to Putrajaya, he never backed down.

Now, that voice is gone.

But we will remember him — not only as an interviewee, but as a friend, as someone who cared deeply for his people and his home.

On behalf of the Radio Free Sarawak team,
we send our deepest condolences to his family, his friends, the Tering community,
and everyone who walked this journey with him.

Rest in peace, Denis Along.
You were a real fighter — and we won’t forget you.

‘RM10 to Say Thank You’

Engage said most Malaysians are aware that the 1MDB scandal was one of the major reasons that led to the fall of BN.

“As such, on the sixth anniversary of GE14, we want to appeal to the Malaysian public to stand with Rewcastle-Brown, the two Malaysian small businesses that published and printed her book by donating ‘RM10 to Say Thank You’ for their courage in exposing corruption in Malaysia,” it added.

(Last December, the Court of Appeal ordered the trio to pay RM300,000 in damages and RM120,000 in legal costs in equal proportion to the Sultanah of Terengganu Sultanah Nur Zahirah for defaming her.
“So far, around RM128,000 has been raised by Rewcastle-Brown from the UK, we are still short of RM292,000.
“While the case is still under appeal to the Federal Court, the three respondents still have to standby the full sum in case the Federal Court upholds the decision and the amount is needed to be paid in full,”)

For this crowdfunding exercise, Engage has partnered with Malaysiakini's Sokong crowdfunding platform for NGOs.
