MPL MY S16 TEAM PLAYOFF PROFILES
I did this last season, so let's bring it back once again! Time to review, compare and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of all 6 of our MPL Malaysia S16 Playoff teams!
Selangor Red Giants Esports - At this point, it's become obvious that SRG.OG is on a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEVEL from everyone else. Top-tier micro, macro, decision-making, hero pools and teamfighting separates them from the pack. They used to be weaker in the early game, but they've actually fixed that this season. Which means their only weakness comes from when they have a draft disadvantage (which is rare). As much as I'd like to see something new, I'm 100% expecting an SRG.OG four-peat champion. Btw, all in on Kramm for regular season MVP, dude is a god.
Monster Vicious - MV specializes in teamfighting. They LOVE 5v5 brawling and they are good at it. Rough and Momo are both aggressive side laners that benefit HEAVILY from double fighter side lane meta. Their mid trio rotates cleanly, and knows how to position to make catches. However, their preference for this style leads to a heavy dependence on early-mid game dominance and weaker macro in general. If they can't keep themselves ahead, they have a hard time coming back. This is a team that wants to force others to play on their terms.
Team Vamos - Vamos used to be known for bombastic but inconsistent aggressive early-game snowballs. This season, they've definitely become more disciplined. While they're still an aggressive team in general, the players show a bit more maturity and composure. This is probably because they've embraced their villain identity and chosen to play the way they want to. Big respect. As a result, they specialize in mid-game brawls and late game macro. Gojes and Natco still need some work holding their sidelanes, and Xorn can be pretty hit-or-miss, but Chibi has been locked in all season.
Homebois - Homebois are the pickoff specialists of MPL MY. They love playing 2-3 frontline tanks/pickoff heroes and scaling gold/mid lanes. Its a very similar style to last season with Daniel and Rezza filling in Ivan and Vell's spots fairly well. Their hero pool is solid, with Eyymal being one of the most universal local junglers, and Melqt capable of playing fighters. However, their preference for pickoff means they must be ahead toward the mid game to remain relevant. Daniel also needs to make sure comms are clean so as not to overextend for pickoffs.
CG Esports - A team with a lot of work to do during this pre-playoff break. They specialize(d) in the late game aspect of MLBB, with the most solid and experienced macro and wave management skills among most teams. However, if Amzziq is absent from the main roster, we have yet to see a proper team identity take his place. Ciku and Valenz are both incredible shotcallers with many seasons of experience, but also tend to rely on past experience in the form of niche hero picks. I have yet to see this team properly adapt to the newest meta. The potential is undoubtedly there, but will they be able to use this time to achieve it?
Aero Esports - Aero has very high highs and very low lows. The most inconsistent team among the final 6 in my opinion. While the players have proven that they can make incredible plays happen with the right drafts, they are VERY dependent on those drafts. Unfortunately, a limited hero pool and lack of macro means the team lacks adaptability and can be figured out quite easily. They are too reliant on winning fights to progress the game, and players lose out on scaling potential to participate. Unless Aero can fix these issues, I don't see them going very far.
What do y'all think about our top 6? And which teams do you think will be representing MY in M7?
