I honestly believe that many Namibians, especially those from the northern regions, are carrying a lot of anger, both on and offline, due to generational trauma.
Imagine going through apartheid, experiencing the worst of it - going to war, watching people die, losing loved ones, and enduring torture.
Then, after all that pain, you return to a free Namibia as if nothing happened. There was no therapy, no support, just the expectation to move on.
You carry that hurt and trauma with you, and then you have to raise children and try to fit into society like everything is fine. But the pain never truly goes away. This is why we see so many issues today, like gender-based violence, toxic masculinity, and parents beating their kids in anger to the point of serious harm. It's not just about discipline; it's violence that causes real damage.
These behaviors are normalized because people never had the chance to heal, and they pass it down to the next generation.
The northern regions, in particular, need mental health support. People need healing, so they don't keep carrying this pain and anger.
If we don’t address it, this cycle will continue. Our comment sections will continue to look the way they do; so much hate and anger.
It's time for us to recognize this and create spaces for healing, so we can break the cycle and stop repeating the same problems.
