Rundu Town Council budgeted about N$5.5 million in the 2025/2026 financial year to purchase heavy machinery such as a motor grader to improve road maintenance in the town. What happened to the money, nobody knows.

I saw that Okongo Village Council has embraced its sandy terrain through tourism by introducing the Maludi Festival 4x4 Experience, sponsored by Pupkewitz Motors.

These are the types of supporting attractions we need at our trade fairs, expos and festivals. Horse racing in Gobabis, canoe racing in Rundu, fishing competitions at the Zambezi Bream Festival, kapana cook-offs in Ongwediva, and many more.

We need to keep innovating and creating exciting experiences around our events. Otherwise, our trade shows and expos will eventually lose their appeal and die.

RUNDU TOWN COUNCIL APPROVES FITNESS CERTIFICATE FOR CASH & CARRY STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

Affirmative Repositioning (AR) activists in Rundu, Kavango East Region, are against the issuing of a fitness certificate by the Rundu Town Council to Corner Cash and Carry, a subsidiary of the Rani Group.

The Rani Group is in the process of finalising the construction of a new shop in Sauyemwa.

Domingu Matjayi, an AR activist, is questioning why a building that is still under construction has already been issued a fitness certificate.

Conditions on the fitness certificate stipulate that it should be used exclusively for administrative purposes.

Approached for comment, the manager at Corner Cash and Carry, Rex Panjaani, told NBC News that the certificate will only be used to secure contracts with suppliers.

News regarding the issuing of the certificate also led to a formal complaint by a concerned community member.

A letter was addressed to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), requesting an urgent investigation into the matter.

ACC spokesperson Marina Matundu confirmed to NBC News that they have received the case and that it is being evaluated.

CEO of the Rundu Town Council, Olavi Nathanael, says it is not unusual for the council to issue a fitness certificate with conditions.

He says the council will still carry out an inspection to ensure Corner Cash and Carry complies with local regulations before it starts trading.

It is not certain when exactly the shop will open its doors.
