*Husband’s Heroic Battle Saves Wife from Vicious Crocodile Attack in Hwange*
A Hwange man, Oliver Nyoni, risked his life to save his wife, Virginia Nyoni (45), from a deadly crocodile attack on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred as Virginia collected water from the Zambezi River, the sole water source for villagers in Msuna-Kanjeza due to the absence of boreholes. Hearing her screams from 300 meters away, Oliver sprinted to the river, where the reptile had already dragged her into deeper water by her thigh.
Without hesitation, Oliver plunged into the river, punching the crocodile repeatedly in the nose until it released his wife of 12 years. “After five punches, it let go,” he recounted. As he pulled Virginia 30 meters to safety, the bloodied crocodile charged again, forcing Oliver to hurl sand and shout for help until it retreated. Virginia is now recovering at Hwange Colliery Hospital and will be transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital for specialized care.
