JUST IN: N**o member of parliament Vetaruhe Kandorozu has called on government to urgently construct dual carriageway detour roads around Windhoek, arguing that they are essential to reducing congestion, preventing road crashes and improving the country's logistics network.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kandorozu said the B1 highway has become Namibia's leading accident hotspot due to inadequate planning and a lack of alternative routes. He expressed condolences to families who have lost loved ones in recent road accidents, saying while some crashes are caused by driver error, many stem from shortcomings in road infrastructure.
Kandorozu criticised the installation of speed humps on highways, saying although they were introduced to protect pedestrians, they have unintentionally increased the risk of vehicle collisions by creating unsafe driving conditions.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS | ROADS AUTHORITY UPDATE

The Roads Authority (RA) has suspended two senior transport officials with immediate effect.

Transportation Executive Officer Johan Boois and Transport Inspectorate Divisional Manager Richard Milinga have been relieved of their duties following internal disciplinary procedures.

According to the RA, due process was followed in line with the organisation’s governance and disciplinary framework.

To ensure continuity of operations, Taukondjele Nambinga has been appointed in an acting capacity to replace Boois, while Michael Shetunyenga will temporarily take over Milinga’s position.

The authority says the appointments are aimed at maintaining stability and effective operations within the transportation business unit.

RA further stated that no additional details will be released, citing respect for the rights and dignity of all parties involved.
