A'IBOM STUDENTS ENDORSE GOV. UMO ENO'S SECOND TERM BID

Students from Akwa Ibom State have openly endorsed Governor Umo Eno for a second term in office, citing what they described as his “transformational impact” in the state’s education sector.

The endorsement was announced during the 2025 International Students’ Day celebration, held at the Ibom Hall Auditorium, Uyo, on Monday.

Speaking on their behalf, the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Dr. Wisdom Emmanuel, expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for what he called unprecedented investments in students’ welfare and development under the ARISE Agenda, noting that the regular and increased bursaries, education grants for students with disabilities, foreign learning exchange programmes, and the upgrade of the state College of Education to a full-fledged University of Education are key milestones that have repositioned the state’s academic environment.

The Governor’s Aide further pointed to the establishment of the Education Trust Fund, professional training opportunities including pilot and ICT programmes, and intervention funds for medical and other students at risk of dropping out, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to empowering young people.

"The ARISE Agenda has positioned students at the heart of its vision, and our Governor has demonstrated that he is fully committed to building a future where every student can thrive. We, as students, will in return, continue to support this visionary leadership."

"To whom much is given, much is expected. Akwa Ibom students, student leaders, and youth stakeholders will stand firmly behind His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, and support his second term bid for continuity, stability, and progress", he said.

The decision was unanimously adopted by thousands of students across different campuses of tertiary institutions in the state.

Earlier, the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Ekanem Paul, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in the educational sector, declaring that the state would not relent in building a generation of innovative and globally competitive young people.

The Governor noted that his administration had, in recent months, scaled up programmes aimed at equipping students with modern skills and opportunities for upward mobility.

AKWA IBOM STUDENTS DECLARE FULL SUPPORT FOR GOV. UMO ENO’S DEFECTON TO APC

Students across Akwa Ibom State, have declared their unflinching support for Governor Umo Eno, following his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that they remain united and resolute with their leader.

The declaration came during a student stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend in Uyo, with key student representatives and the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, in attendance.

Declaring full loyalty to the Governor, a Leader in the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS), Comrade Ubong Ekwere, revealed his intention to defect properly to the APC in his ward, urging other students to also secure their APC membership cards in solidarity with Governor Eno.

He pledged continued support for the Governor and encouraged other students to remain focused and united.

On their part, the Treasurer of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Heritage Akan, flanked by the Zonal Representative of NANS, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan, also declared total support for the Governor, saying students nationwide recognise his commitment to youth empowerment and development.

Speaking on behalf of the Students Traditional Rulers Council, Nsobom in Council Worldwide, Nsobom Samuel Robert, reaffirmed the Council's loyalty to the Governor and praised his efforts in supporting students across institutions, saying the State Chief Executive has shown he is always on the side of the students.

They commended his consistency and pledged to amplify his vision regardless of party lines.

The Convener of the Member and Personal Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Dr. Wisdom Emmanuel, appreciated the students for their loyalty and urged them to the Governor's political move as the best for the state.

"The Governor remains committed to student welfare and educational advancement. His decision to join the APC is strategic and for the benefit of the students and the entire Akwa Ibom State. He simply connecting Akwa Ibom to the Centre and that means more good things will come to the students community,” Dr. Emmanuel stated.

He specifically praised the Governor for carrying the students along in the scheme of things, assuring the students that the Governor would continue to prioritise their welfare.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh, harped on the importance of student unity and reassured them that the Ministry would continue to partner with them under the ARISE Agenda.

He said irrespective of party affiliation, the unity, growth and development of the state were top in the Governor's agenda.

“Together, we can achieve greater things. The Governor is a compassionate leader who has never failed the student community. This is the best time for students to achieve their set goals."

"So, I'm urging all of us here to form a united front and support the Governor", he said.

Others who spoke at the meeting were the Personal Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Godwin Edet, Comrade Peace Bassey of NAAKISS, etc, while representatives of other unions and associations, including NAAKISS, NANS, the Council of SUG Presidents, Niger Delta Students Union Government, AIFSA, NAAKIMS, NAUS, and several departmental and faculty heads, unanimously agreed to remain steadfast with the Governor.

EXCERPTS FROM THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING OF WEDNESDAY, 2ND APRIL, 2025

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council today, April 2nd , 2025 held its fourth meeting since reconstitution.

The Meeting was presided over by the Governor in Council, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D with the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Head of Civil Service, Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, as well as Commissioners and Special Advisers in attendance.

The Executive Council after due consideration of Memos and deliberation on issues brought before it, took decisions and made the following resolutions:

1. The Governor in Council granted approval for the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to exercise supervisory role over the Akwa Ibom State Infrastructure and Asset Management and Maintenance Agency, with effect from today, April 2, 2025. This decision followed a memo brought before Council by the Head of the Civil Service on the importance and strategic nature of the Agency and need to provide effective oversight on its operations for efficiency and effectiveness.

2. Following a memo also presented by the Head of Civil Service and in pursuant to the directive of His Excellency the Governor for the recruitment of Safety Officers into the Akwa Ibom State Public Service and issuance of Establishment Circular No.1 of 2024, for the domestication of Federal Circular on the creation of Occupational Safety Officers Cadre in the Public Service, Council approved the establishment of the Department of Occupational Safety in the Akwa Ibom State Public Service, to be headed by a Permanent Secretary under the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

3. Following complaints received from various communities in the oil-bearing part of the State, particularly the area of operations of the Sterling Global, the State Executive Council after due consideration and review, directed that the oil company to immediately revert and limit its operations within the 1000 hectares of land earlier allocated to them and the 700 hectares buffer zone.

Council therefore directed that the company must stop any further encroachment or closing of any creek in the state and directed the Ministry of Lands to take appropriate actions to ensure the determination of all statuses as regards the approvals given, to ensure that they operate within the confines of the Law.

4. The Executive Council, pursuant to the Agriculture and Food Sufficiency program of the ARISE Agenda, inaugurated the Akwa Ibom State Agriculture and Food Security Committee.
The eight-member committee under the Chairmanship of Prof. Okon Ansa, has as members, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, Prof. Trenchard Ibia, Prof. Elizabeth Ebukiba, Dr. Etemudo Udongo, Ambassador Alphonsus Inyang and Pastor Godwin Ukwat, while Mr. Ofonbuk Nelson will serve as Secretary.

The Committee was charged to design data based food production and processing system to ensure food availability through adequate food stock and feedstock for farmers in the State as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda as envisioned by the Governor.

5. Council also took presentations from various ministries on their plans, projects and short term goals and provided pathways to improved service delivery.

GOV ENO INAUGURATES AGRICULTURE AND FOOD SECURITY COMMITTEE
. . reaffirms commitment to agric revolution, tourism devt

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural revolution and tourism development as critical enablers of growth and progress.

Speaking at the inauguration of an 8 - man Agriculture and Food Security Committee at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, the Governor charged the committee to drive food revolution in the State, by reviewing the State's food policies, and working closely with small holder farmers, and other stakeholders to achieve food security and price stability.

Governor Eno who served as Executive Director of the State's Directorate of Agriculture Investment in the last administration, said the State is blessed with arable land and other resources needed to be self sufficient in food production, and called for synergy among relevant stakeholders to achieve the desired result.

He highlighted the State's potential in agriculture, saying that more work was required in the oil palm sector and urged the committee to recommit themselves to the vision of agricultural revolution.

"Let's see how we can reach out to every farmer in this State. Can you at a press of a button reach a farmer in INI Local Government Area? Can you know the farmer in Mbo who is a fish farmer? Can we as a State say to ourselves, this year, this is the kind of harvest we expect for cassava, for maize, for our fish and others."

He reiterated plans to make the State a tourism hub, either through Agriculture, Sports, Health, and other sectors, and urged the Commissioner for Sports to take advantage of the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival, to work out modalities of having an annual sports festival in the State.

The Governor emphasised that the mandate of the committee is not in anyway in conflict with that of the Ministry of Agriculture, stressing that with the Commissioner for Agriculture as a full member of the committee, synergy was required to ensure success.

He congratulated the members of the committee and expressed confidence in the composition saying that given their pedigree, he was hopeful they will deliver above expectations.

Responding, the Chairman, Prof. Okon Ansa, a Plant Virologist and former State Commissioner, said food security is the strength of any nation or people, adding that the strongest nations are also those that can feed themselves.

He appreciated the Governor for considering them fit to serve the State through the committee and assured that they will put in their best to deliver on their mandate, and that the State will move strongly towards food sufficiency and security.

Other members of the committee are Prof. Trenchard Ibia, Dr. Etemudo Udongo, Amb. Alphonsus Inyang, Prof Elizabeth Ebukiba, Pastor Godwin Ukwat, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Offiong Offiong and the Director of Agriculture Investment, Mr. Ofonmbuk Nelson as Secretary.

RAIN OF EMPOWERMENT FOR A'IBOM STUDENTS, AS GOV. UMO ENO'S AIDE HOLDS PROJECT ASTRA
..Commends Gov. Eno for being students friendly

It was rain of empowerment for Akwa Ibom students over the weekend in Uyo, following the successful hosting of 'Project ASTRA', an initiative aimed at empowering the next generation, especially, students.

Organized by the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Students Affairs, Comrade Wisdom Emmanuel, at Dueua Hotel, Abak Road, Uyo, the programme saw the empowerment of exceptional students farmers in the state, with two students being encouraged with N100, 000 and N50,000 respectively.

Similarly, three students who emerged top from the Essay competition powered by Comrade Wisdom Emmanuel -Effiong Fortune Udeme, Endurance Monday and Uwakmfon Edet Elijah- received their prizes of N200,000, N150,000 and N100,000, respectively.

Speaking at the event which was attended by students across the state, Comrade Emmanuel said the event was organized to celebrate the boundless potentials of students in the state, while also equipping them with the skills, knowledge and resilience needed to address local and global challenges.

He noted that the event was in line with the ARISE Agenda of His Excellency, Pastor (Dr) Umo Eno who he said is not only students friendly, but committed to empowering youth to leave a lasting, positive impact on society.

The event featured inspiring talk sessions from distinguished resource persons including the MD of AKICORP, Pastor Imoh-Abasi Jacob who charged the students on how to turn setbacks into stepping stones on their entrepreneurial journey; Prof. Mojisola Eseyin, Dean Faculty of Law, who spoke on how strategic connections unlock new opportunities and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Reorientation, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr who spoke on creating a personal brand and positioning for opportunities in a competitive job marketplace.

Others were the CEO of U&K, Engr. Ukeme Eyo who spoke on 'Not too young to Lead: Inspiring Youth to take charge and Create Impact in Business, Governance, and Society'; Engr. Bobby Bassey while spoke on 'The Future is now: Developing Next generation Leaders for Local and Global Impact', as well as Elder (Dr) Ubong Inyang who drilled the students on 'Agri-Tech Innovation: The role of Technology in Modernizing Agriculture for Youth Entrepreneurs.'

GOV. UMO ENO COMMISSIONS 4.95KM EKPARAKWA -NTAK IBESIT ROAD IN ORUK ANAM LGA
..Assures on completion of inherited projects

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, has commissioned the recently completed 4.95km Ekparakwa-Ntak Ibesit Road in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

In a colourful ceremony held on Thursday, Governor Eno noted that the road project which connects Ekparakwa with Ibesit Clan, will add substantial value to Oruk Anam through enhanced access to the General Hospital in Ikot Okoro, as well as schools, farmlands and markets located within the area.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi, Pastor Eno maintained that the commissioning of the Ekparakwa-Ntak Ibesit Road was an indication of his administration's commitment to completing inherited projects and further assured on the completion of the 22. 75km Ikot Ekaide - Ikot Okoro - Ibiritam Road.

"As important as this Ekparakwa - Ntak Ibesit Road is, it is a tip of the iceberg compared to the soon to be commissioned 22. 75km Ikot Ekaide - Ikot Okoro - Ibiritam Road with two bridges which upon completion will significantly lessen travel time between Akwa Ibom and Rivers State.

"This administration is redefining the concept of continuity, showcasing its power and unleashing its benefits for the people. Upon assumption of office, I promised to complete all inherited ongoing projects. If not for anything, to ensure the money already spent is not wasted and our people enjoy the intended benefits. We have kept this promise", he said.

The Governor also opened up on other ongoing projects in Oruk Anam LGA and appreciated the people for their support to his government.

"Like the rest of the State, Oruk Anam is a beneficiary of the One Project Per Local Government Area and ARISE Compassionate Homes Initiatives of this administration. The Model Primary School at Ikot Ebritan is almost ready for commissioning while the construction of a Model Health Centre will commence soon. Definitely, things are getting better.

"Moreso, blessed with a large expanse of arable land and known for farming, Oruk Anam is one of the Local Government Areas which will accelerate the actualization of our vision for food security and sufficiency in Akwa Ibom State", the Governor added.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Fire Service, Ignatius Ekwere who presented an overview of the project, said the road has a span of 8metres, with 150mm compacted subbase, 150mm compacted base course, line drains and 50mm wearing course, amongst other features which he added are in line with global best standard.

Stakeholders and leaders of the Local Government Area who spoke at the event, including the Council Chairman, Hon. Sunday Akpan, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, Political Leader, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, the Paramount Ruler of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, HRM Engr. J. J. Obosi and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths Mobilization, Mr. Aniebiet Ntuen, lauded Governor Eno for not playing politics with the development of the State and Oruk Anam Local Government Area in particular.

They expressed hope that the newly constructed road which traverses six communities, will not only boost the economy of area, but further open up the Local Government for more development.

Governor Eno to pay 13th Month Salary
… N80,000 Minimum Wage to be Paid after Verification Exercise

In his passionate commitment to the welfare of public workers in the State, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, today announced that the 13th month salary, popularly known as “ Eno-Mber” will be paid next month to bring a more joyful Yuletide to civil servants in the state.

The Governor made this announcement on Sunday, during a church service at the Eternity Mission International Church in Uyo.

The 13th month salary, which the Governor started paying last year, was hugely popular amongst the State’s Civil Servants and the announcement of the planned payment again this year is expected to be massively received by the workers.

Governor Eno, also at the occasion announced that the payment of the N80,000 minimum wage to all public servants will commence shortly after completion of the ongoing proper verification exercise.

“ I am aware that quite a number of our Civil Servants have relocated within Nigeria while others have gone abroad. We have to be sure that those receiving payments are real Civil Servants. My watchword since assuming office has been transparency and honesty in service deliverables and we have to ensure that we carry this through this verification exercise, which would soon be completed.”

Governor Eno, also used the opportunity to discourage those who are constantly agitating for the disruption in the smooth and seamless relationship that has existed between the State Government and the Organized Labour to have a rethink.

“Since we came in, we have paid critical attention to the needs and the welfare of civil servants in this State. To date, we have paid N35 billion in gratuities to retired state, local government workers and primary school teachers in the State“

During the last Public Service Week, the Governor had announced a bonus of N1.1billion naira to all public servants in the State, which was promptly paid.

Apart from prompt payment of salary, pension and gratuities as mentioned above, the Governor has also released and ensured prompt payment of Wage Award for 3months to cushion the effect of high cost of living occasioned by fuel subsidy removal.

He is also committed to investing in Affordable Housing Scheme for Workers. Last September, 150 homes at the Grace Estate were given to Civil Servants from grade levels 1-8 free of charge through raffle draw

He had also given approval for the conduct of all Service Examinations in preparation for 2024 promotions as well as the release of 2023 promotion and an increase of pension to workers who retired before 2012.

Equally striking in the Governor’s dedication to the welfare of workers, was the approval given for release of outstanding 7.5% contributory pension to contributors as well as the appointment of 22 new Permanent Secretaries.

The Governor has enjoyed a robust Labour - Government relations and he remains dedicated to deepening and expanding the relationship and hopes for reciprocity on the part of organs within the Organized Labour
