A WAKEUP CALL FOR THE CHURCH
In many places today, the church building is full, the offering basket is heavy, and the accounts are balanced — but heaven’s register may be empty.
The sound of coins dropping into offering bowls has become louder than the sound of repentance at the altar. Fundraising programs are carefully organized. Harvests are celebrated in grand style.
Projects are announced every month. Yet outside the church walls, broken souls wander without guidance, young people drown in confusion, families collapse in silence, and sinners perish without hearing the true message of salvation.
The early church in the Book of Acts was known for power, prayer, and transformation — not prosperity competitions.
They preached Christ crucified. They healed the sick. They fed the hungry. They confronted sin with love and boldness. Their focus was souls, not silver.
Today, some pulpits have become platforms for prosperity alone. The gospel is packaged as a business opportunity. Salvation is sometimes reduced to a transaction: “Sow a seed and receive a blessing.” Meanwhile, holiness is rarely preached, repentance is uncomfortable, and the urgency of eternity is ignored.
Jesus asked, “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” If this question applies to individuals, it also applies to churches.
A church that prioritizes money over mission risks becoming a corporation instead of a commission. The Great Commission was never about collecting coins — it was about making disciples.
Money is necessary. Buildings are important. Projects can be useful. But when fundraising overshadows soul-winning, when offerings matter more than outreach, when members are valued more for their giving than their growth — something is spiritually wrong.
The true wealth of a church is not in its treasury but in transformed lives. The real success of ministry is not in the size of the offering but in the number of souls led to Christ.
Heaven rejoices over one sinner who repents — not over a million-naira offering.
It is time for the church to remember its first love. To preach salvation without compromise. To value souls over silver. To seek revival more than revenue.
Because while coins can build cathedrals, only Christ can save souls.
