A LAW THAT SAVES LIVES AND RESTORED HUMANITY IN NIGERIA.

In 2017, Dame Barr. Mrs. Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha sponsored the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Act on the floor of the Green Chamber of the National Assembly. The bill was subsequently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in the interest of public safety and humanity.

This landmark Act mandates all hospitals, whether public or private, to provide immediate and adequate treatment to victims of gunshot wounds without demanding a police report or upfront payment before treatment. It was enacted to put an end to the needless deaths of Nigerians caused by fear, negligence, and bureaucracy.

KEY PROVISIONS OF THE ACT:

• Every hospital must immediately treat gunshot victims.
• No police report is required before treatment begins.
• No hospital is allowed to demand an initial deposit before attending to victims.
• Hospitals are to notify the nearest police station within two hours after treatment commences.
• Victims must not be subjected to torture, harassment, or inhumane treatment.
• Any individual or authority in contact with a gunshot victim has a duty to take them to the nearest hospital.
• The police cannot interrogate a victim until certified medically fit by the Chief Medical Director.

Legal practitioner, Chigozie Ellen Onugha Esq., described the Act as one that addressed the long-standing problems surrounding police procedures, hospital responsibilities, and public involvement in handling gunshot emergencies. The Act clearly protects victims and even provides for restitution where negligence or violations occur.

In simple terms, it is now a punishable offense in Nigeria for any hospital or individual to deny treatment to a gunshot victim.

For years, many innocent Nigerians lost their lives because hospitals feared police involvement or insisted on money before treatment. Today, citizens can rely on this law and seek justice against any institution that violates it.

This happened because a lawmaker rose to the occasion.
This happened because a leader cared more about Nigerians than personal glory.
This is a legacy that cannot be erased.
This is what true representation looks like.

Barr. Mrs. Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha stands out as an orator, academic, barrister, legislator, mother, humanitarian, and philanthropist — a light in a dark tunnel for her people and for Nigerians at large.

GOV OTTI DROVE DOWN ON SUNDAY TO INSPECT UMUIMO ROAD THAT IS NOT UPTO ONE KILOMETER

This is Abuwa Memorial Primary School, Okpu-Umuobo. Today, the rain forced pupils to end their classes abruptly because the condition of the school could no longer support learning under such weather. Children who should be in safe and conducive classrooms were left stranded, battling with leaking structures and an environment that has been abandoned for far too long. Sadly, this is the only community school left for our people after the other was converted to NALDA.

What makes this even more painful is that leadership seems to only remember communities when cameras are present or when projects are located in urban centers. On Sunday, Gov. Alex C. Otti drove down to inspect the ongoing Umuimo Road project, a road that is not even up to one kilometre, simply because it is within an urban area. Yet, the deplorable condition of this school and the terrible road leading to it have continued to receive no attention. Our children deserve better. Rural communities also deserve to be seen, heard, and prioritized. Development should not stop at the cities while communities like Okpu-Umuobo continue to suffer in silence.

DECONSTRUCTING THE ELIGIBILITY OF SENATOR NKECHI NWAOGU FOR ABIA CENTRAL SENATORIAL SEAT

When conversations about competence, experience, capacity and political relevance come up in Abia Central, the name Senator Nkechi Nwaogu PhD, CON, popularly known as Mama APC, cannot be ignored. Her political journey, administrative exposure and empowerment records clearly place her among the most experienced aspirants in the race.

From serving as the Acting National Treasurer of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) to becoming the first Manager of Diamond Bank in Nigeria as far back as 1991, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu built her career on leadership, administration and financial management long before many entered active politics. She further represented her people at the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007 before proceeding to the Senate where she chaired critical committees including Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, as well as Gas, while also serving as a member of the Appropriation Committee.

Over 450 jobs facilitated, scholarships within and outside Nigeria fully funded by her, skill acquisition programmes for over 100 beneficiaries, and distribution of more than 87 transformers across communities between 2007 and 2015 are not mere campaign promises but visible interventions tied to her years in public service.

Politics should not only be about sentiments, slogans or social media popularity. It should also be about proven capacity, experience, competence and measurable impacts. Looking critically at the profiles of aspirants jostling for the APC ticket in Abia Central, many supporters believe Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has built a résumé difficult to overlook.

Over the weekend, Mary Ikoku 2027 was successfully screened and officially cleared by the screening committee to contest for the House of Representatives, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

This marks another important milestone in her journey towards offering purposeful and people-oriented representation to the good people of the constituency.

Speaking after the screening exercise, Mary Ikoku expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the overwhelming support, encouragement, prayers, calls, and goodwill messages she has continued to receive from individuals and groups across Arochukwu and Ohafia.

According to her, the successful screening is not just about completing a political process, but a reflection of the growing acceptance and strength of the movement being built around fairness, inclusion, opportunity, and progress for the people.

She further reaffirmed her commitment to serving with humility, listening to the people sincerely, and working towards a future that truly reflects the aspirations of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

MANY LP APPOINTEES LOOK FINANCIALLY BROKE

One former Chief Press Secretary and now a Director General in the Alex Otti government recently posted about convening a stakeholders’ meeting in his house. He further claimed that his ward is the biggest and highest voting ward in Osisioma.

Interestingly, the meeting photos painted a different picture. The attendees looked tired, the disposable cups were empty, and the gathering itself lacked energy. More worrisome was the fact that majority of the people there were within the ages of 60-70, with very few youths and almost no women in sight.

This is the same DG who, during the previous administration when SA and SSA slots were being shared to empower people politically and economically, could hardly point to how many youths from his ward or even Osisioma benefited through him. Till today, I cannot confidently point to many successful youths politically raised by him.

Beyond media statements and indoor meetings, leadership should be felt through empowerment, loyalty, structure building, and grassroots impact. Politics is not just about titles or social media posts; it is about the people you have helped grow.

I honestly won’t blame LP entirely for his style because giving and empowering people has never really been his nature. Though, truth be told, many LP appointees today are looking politically and financially exhausted.

MY RIVALS ARE INCREASING DAILY

I am getting a lot of rivalries lately and most of them are deeply rooted in jealousy. Some people are shocked that I can project leaders and political figures outside my constituency or even outside my local government. They are surprised that I work with bigger stakeholders and respected names across the party and the state. But one thing they fail to understand is that grace speaks louder than noise, and when God opens doors for you, no man can shut them.

The truth is, the rivalry will increase in the coming months because God has already announced me to bigger platforms and greater relevance. What many people are seeing today is only the beginning. When consistency, visibility, hard work, and favor come together, growth becomes inevitable.

So, no dey jealous me, inu?
