The Ebonyi State Government has taken significant steps to improve electricity distribution for its residents by instructing the Eastland Electricity Distribution Company Limited (EEDCL) to revise its tariff structure. The directive, issued by Dr. Peter Oge Ali, the Honourable Commissioner for Power and Energy, aims to alleviate the higher electricity costs currently borne by Ebonyians compared to those in other states.
During a courtesy visit from Mr. Nnamdi Chuka Nwosu, the new group manager of EEDCL, Commissioner Oge Ali expressed his concerns regarding the unfair pricing and emphasized the need for equitable treatment for the people of Ebonyi. He announced plans to establish an electricity regulatory commission in the state, which is in the final stages of legislative approval. This commission will oversee electricity distribution in alignment with the Federal Government's Electricity Act of 2023.
In response, Mr. Nwosu acknowledged the importance of collaboration with the Ministry and committed to improving electricity distribution services. He highlighted initiatives such as on-the-spot reconciliation of electrical issues, enhanced online customer services, and expedited repairs of damaged transformers.
The meeting also recognized the role of the Ebube-Agu security outfit in safeguarding electrical infrastructure, ensuring that offenders are promptly dealt with by law enforcement.
This initiative aims to enhance the electricity service experience for the citizens of Ebonyi State, ensuring they enjoy reliable power at fair rates.
