'Sorry Dad, I Will Beat Super Eagles Today' — Ugandan Striker, Ikpeazu Declares. Uche Ikpeazu, a Nigerian-born Ugandan striker, has expressed his desire to help the Cranes secure a victory against the Super Eagles in their final Group C match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Born in England to a Nigerian father and a Ugandan mother, Ikpeazu made his full international debut for Uganda in September 2025. Despite his Nigerian heritage, Ikpeazu emphasized that his emotional connection to his father's country remains strong. 'My dad is from Delta State. I am half-Nigerian; that is where my dad is from. So there is always going to be an emotional attachment,' he stated.
With Nigeria already qualified for the knockout round, they will face Uganda on Tuesday at the Stade Foot Fès. Uganda, currently fourth in the group with one point from two games, must secure a win against Nigeria to have a chance to qualify.
Ikpeazu acknowledged that his Nigerian connection will not hinder his performance for Uganda. 'I am Ugandan as well, and I play for Uganda. I will be hoping to beat Nigeria. So, Dad, I am sorry,' the striker said.
Ikpeazu further stated that he does not have a planned celebration against Nigeria, but acknowledged that emotions can get the better of him in the game.
The Super Eagles currently top Group C with six points, having defeated Tanzania 2-1 and secured a 3-2 victory over Tunisia.
