CREEPY FACTS ABOUT THE OCEAN YOU WISH YOU DIDN'T KNOW
~At least 200 people vanish at sea every year without a trace; the odds of a body being recovered after going missing at sea is less than 10%.
~The deepest part of the ocean could crush you instantly. At the Marina Trench's Challenger Deep, the pressure is around 16,000 psi - equivalent to holding 50 planes on your body. It is so deep that if Mount Everest was placed inside it, the peak would still be underwater.
~Dead bodies often never decompose. They mummify. Cold temperatures, lack of oxygen and pressure can preserve bodies for decades or even centuries.
~There are about 3 million shipwrecks on the ocean floor. Only 1% of them have been found, the rest remain undiscovered containing human remains, artifacts and entire ecosystems.
~Less than 5% of the ocean have been explored by humans. Most of it is unknown, including 90% of ocean species, and cannot be explored due to freezing temperatures, extreme pressure and total darkness.
~Some sharks are older than the Roman empire. Greenland sharks can live for over 400 years, meaning some still alive today we're born in the 1600s.
