Today, we celebrate the incredible energy, limitless potential, and life-giving spirit embedded in the Girl Child all over the world. From the foetus stage to maturity, the Girl Child exudes amazingly unique characteristics that set her apart. We honor the strength and resilience of girls who are breaking boundaries and barriers posed by stereotypes and exclusion
In Abeokuta, we draw inspiration from trailblazing women like Chief Mrs. Ogunmokun Oluranti Ogunjemilusi, Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, Her Excellency, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, and Madam Efunroye Tinubu, who paved the way for future generations. Their groundbreaking achievements demonstrate the transformative impact of girls and women.
Despite progress, girls face persistent challenges, including exploitation, forced marriage, and gender-based violence. These human rights violations stifle girls' growth and undermine their well-being. Collective action is necessary to create a world where girls are safeguarded, valued, and empowered.
To achieve this, governments and communities must prioritize girls' education, healthcare, and economic inclusion. Addressing root causes of exploitation, forced marriage, and violence requires shifting societal norms and promoting girls' rights.
As we mark this significant day, Balogun Olaniyi Afeez, APC Executive Chairmanship Candidate, Abeokuta South Local Government, and Chief Mrs. Ogunmokun Oluranti Ogunjemilusi, APC Executive Vice Chairmanship Candidate have once again affirmed their dedication to supporting girls and women.
Together, let's create a brighter future where girls thrive, realizing their full potential.
