😂 THE DAY I LOOKED FOR SOMETHING WHILE HOLDING IT

I was looking everywhere.

Under the bed.

On the table.

Inside my bag.

I was getting frustrated.

“Where did I keep this thing?”

😭😂

I searched again.

Then I finally stopped.

Looked at my hand.

And there it was.

I WAS HOLDING IT.

😭😭😭

I stood there quietly.

Because what exactly was I supposed to say?

😂

My brain had officially resigned.

😂 THE DAY I HEARD MY NAME IN A CONVERSATION

I was minding my business.

Completely innocent.

Then I heard:

“…Halimat…”

😭

My ears immediately became CCTV cameras.

😂😂😂

I didn't turn around.

I didn't react.

I just became very interested in whatever I was doing.

But inside my head:

“What did they say?”

😭

Then I heard my name again.

At that point, I needed information.

So I started pretending to look for something.

😂

I moved closer.

Very casually.

Then I discovered they weren't even talking about me.

😭😭😭

I stood there feeling stupid.

I had launched a full investigation…

Into a conversation that had nothing to do with me.

😂😂😂

😂 THE DAY I OPENED WHATSAPP TO REPLY ONE PERSON

I opened WhatsApp.

I had one simple mission:

Reply one message.

That's all.

Easy.

I opened the chat.

Then somehow…

I saw somebody's status.

I clicked it.

😭

One status became three.

Three became seven.

Seven became “Let me see what this person posted.”

😂😂😂

Before I knew it…

I had watched statuses from people I haven't spoken to since 2019.

I knew who got married.

Who travelled.

Who bought a new car.

Who was angry.

Who was selling something.

Who had suddenly become a motivational speaker. 😭😂

Then I looked at the original message.

Still unread.

😂😭

I closed WhatsApp.

Opened it again.

And finally replied:

“Sorry, I just saw this.”

The biggest lie of the day. 😂

😂 THE DAY I CHECKED MY ACCOUNT BALANCE BEFORE DECIDING IF I WAS HUNGRY

I was hungry.

Very hungry.

The kind of hunger where you start thinking about food every five minutes. 😭

Then I remembered…

Money.

😂

So I opened my banking app.

Checked my balance.

Silence.

I looked at the amount.

The hunger suddenly became manageable.

😭😭😭

I said:

“Maybe I'm not actually hungry.”

😂😂😂

I drank water.

Waited.

Opened the fridge.

Closed it.

Opened it again.

Then I remembered my account balance.

Closed it.

😂😭

Apparently, poverty can also help with portion control.

😂 THE DAY I PRETENDED I DIDN'T HEAR MY NAME

“Halimat!”

I heard it.

Clearly.

Perfectly.

My ears received the message. 😂

But I stayed quiet.

“Halimat!”

I suddenly became very busy with my phone.

😭😂

“HALIMAT!”

I still didn't answer.

At this point, I was no longer pretending not to hear.

I was conducting an experiment.

😂😂😂

Then I heard:

“Okay, I'll ask somebody else.”

I immediately shouted:

“Yes! What is it?”

😭😭😭

And the person just looked at me.

“You didn't hear me before?”

Me:

“No, Mummy. I didn't hear anything.”

The lie was so obvious even my ancestors were embarrassed. 😂😭

😂 AMAKA IN LAGOS — EPISODE 11

“AMAKA DISCOVERS ONLINE SHOPPING” 📱📦😂

Amaka had finally accepted that Lagos people could order cars from their phones.

She still didn't understand how...

But she had decided not to ask too many questions. 😂

One afternoon, Madam was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through her phone.

Amaka walked past.

Then she stopped.

Madam was looking at pictures of clothes, shoes and handbags.

Amaka leaned closer.

“Madam?”

“Yes?”

“What are you doing?”

“I'm shopping.”

Amaka looked around.

“Shopping?”

“Yes.”

Amaka looked at the phone.

Then at Madam.

“Where is the shop?”

Madam laughed.

“It's online.”

Amaka looked confused.

“Online?”

“Yes.”

“Where is online?”

😭😭😭😂

Madam pointed at her phone.

“You choose what you want here, pay for it, and they'll deliver it to the house.”

Amaka stared at the phone.

“You mean...”

“Yes?”

“You can buy something without going to the market?”

“Yes.”

Amaka slowly sat beside her.

“So nobody will shout?”

“No.”

“Nobody will say, 'Madam, come and buy from me'?”

“No.”

“Nobody will follow you around?”

“No.”

Amaka nodded thoughtfully.

“Hmm.”

Then she looked at the screen again.

“This Lagos thing is actually good sometimes.” 😂

Madam continued scrolling.

Suddenly Amaka saw a beautiful handbag.

“Madam!”

“What?”

“Buy that one!”

Madam laughed.

“You want it?”

“Yes, ma.”

“Okay.”

Madam clicked ADD TO CART.

Amaka's eyes widened.

“What did you just do?”

“I added it to the cart.”

Amaka looked around the room.

“Where is the cart?”

😭😭😭😂😂😂

Madam burst out laughing.

“The cart is on the phone!”

Amaka looked at the screen.

“Madam, I don't see any cart.”

“It's the shopping cart icon.”

Amaka shook her head.

“Ah-ah. Even the cart is inside the phone?”

😂😂😂

Madam finally placed the order.

“Now we wait for delivery.”

Amaka nodded.

“How long?”

“Maybe tomorrow.”

Amaka smiled.

“Okay.”

The next day, a dispatch rider arrived.

Amaka opened the gate.

The rider handed her a package.

“Delivery for Madam.”

Amaka collected it.

She stared at the package.

Then looked down the street.

Then back at the package.

She ran inside.

“Madam!”

“Yes?”

“The thing you bought inside the phone has arrived!” 😭😂😂

Madam couldn't stop laughing.

Amaka shook her head.

“But Madam...”

“Yes?”

“Next time, I want to buy something.”

“Okay.”

“What?”

“A husband.”

Madam nearly fell off the sofa. 😂😂😂

❤️ I MARRIED A MAN I DIDN'T LOVE

Episode 8 — “Why Does He Remember Everything I Say?”

There was something strange about Daniel.

The more I lived with him…

The more I realized that he actually listened.

😭❤️

Not the kind of listening where someone says:

“Hmm.”

“Okay.”

And forgets everything five minutes later.

No.

Daniel remembered things I didn't even remember telling him.

One evening, I was getting ready to go out.

I was looking for my handbag when Daniel walked into the room.

“Are you looking for this?”

He held up a small cream handbag.

I stared at him.

“Yes!”

“How did you know I wanted that one?”

He shrugged.

“You said you liked it because it matches your cream hijab.”

😭

I paused.

“When did I tell you that?”

He looked at me.

“A few weeks ago.”

A FEW WEEKS AGO?!

I couldn't even remember what I ate yesterday. 😭😂

Then another day…

I mentioned casually:

“I don't really like very cold drinks.”

The next morning, Daniel brought me a drink.

“It isn't cold.”

I looked at him.

“You remembered?”

“Yes.”

😭❤️

I didn't know what to say.

Then one evening, I complained:

“I hate when people leave the bathroom light on.”

The next morning…

The light was off.

😂😭

At first, I thought it was a coincidence.

Then it happened again.

And again.

And again.

One afternoon, I finally asked him:

“Daniel…”

“Yes?”

“Why do you remember everything I say?”

He looked genuinely confused.

“Because you said it.”

😭😂

I stared at him.

“That doesn't answer my question.”

He smiled.

“I listen when you talk.”

Silence.

😭❤️

I didn't know why that simple sentence affected me.

Nobody had done anything extraordinary.

He hadn't bought me flowers.

He hadn't planned some romantic surprise.

He had simply…

listened.

And somehow, that felt different.

That night, I lay in bed thinking about it.

Maybe Daniel wasn't as distant as I thought.

Maybe he had been paying attention all along.

And maybe…

I was finally starting to pay attention to him too.

❤️ GOOD HEALTH IS SO UNDERRATED.

Sometimes we think we are strong because we wake up every morning and get things done.

We clean.

We cook.

We work.

We walk around.

We run errands.

We take care of our children.

We go about our normal lives.

And we think:

“I'm strong. That's why I can do all these things.”

But recently, I've learned something.

It's not just because you're strong.

It's because God has given you the health and strength to do them. ❤️

You don't truly understand the value of good health until your body suddenly refuses to cooperate with you.

Until sitting down for an hour becomes difficult because you feel this weakness from somewhere deep inside you.

Until walking for 30 minutes makes you desperately want to lie down.

Until the things you used to do without thinking suddenly require so much effort.

That's when you realize…

Being able to do ordinary things is actually a blessing.

😭❤️

For the past few days, I've been experiencing this myself.

I know I'm supposed to be getting my strength back by now.

But how do I build strength when I still struggle to eat properly?

My appetite is still not fully back, and I'm working on it.

And honestly…

It's frustrating.

But it has also taught me something I don't want to forget.

Don't wait until you lose something before you realize how valuable it was.

Your ability to wake up and feel okay…

Your appetite.

Your energy.

Your ability to walk.

Your ability to sit and work.

Your ability to play with your children.

Your ability to simply move through your day without your body fighting you…

These things are blessings.

We complain about them.

We rush through them.

We take them for granted.

Until one day…

We desperately want them back.

So this is my little reminder to myself and to anyone reading this:

Please take care of yourself.

Prioritize your health.

Listen to your body.

Rest when you need to.

And never take good health for granted.

Because sometimes the greatest blessing in your life…

Is the thing you don't even notice because you've always had it.

Good health. ❤️

May God restore our strength, protect our health and keep us grateful for the little things we usually overlook. 🤲🏽❤️

😂 ME, A GLUTTON… CURRENTLY AT WAR WITH FOOD

If you know me, you know I love food.

I don't just eat food.

I think about food. 😂

I can be doing something completely unrelated and suddenly think:

“What if I make this with that?”

“What if I fry the plantain and add egg?”

“What if I try this recipe?”

“What can I eat later?”

😭😂

Food has always been one of my favourite things to think about.

But for the past 10 days or so…

Something has happened to me.

I have lost my appetite.

And I don't mean:

“I don't feel like eating.”

No.

I mean…

MENTIONING FOOD CAN MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THROWING UP. 😭😭😭

Food.

The thing I used to fantasize about.

Now someone can say:

“Have you eaten?”

And my stomach will be like:

“Please don't start.” 😭😂

I looked at plantain yesterday.

PLANTAIN.

The same plantain I could spend five minutes imagining different ways to prepare.

I ate it.

And immediately…

I wanted to throw up.

It even tasted too sugary to me.

I couldn't swallow it.

I spat it out. 😭

Then my daughter asked me to help her break a sweet.

I touched it.

Tasted a little.

And suddenly my entire mouth was like:

“WE DON'T WANT THIS.” 😭😭😭

Sugary things?

Please.

Leave me alone.

😂😭

The funniest part is that food is not even the problem.

There is food in the house.

There are things I normally love.

I could literally have whatever I want…

But my body is currently looking at food like:

“Don't bring that nonsense near me.” 😂😭

Me?

The same person who used to think about food when I wasn't even hungry.

Now thinking about food makes me feel sick.

😭😭😭

Honestly…

This is the first time I'm understanding what people mean when they say:

“You don't know what you have until you lose it.”

Because apparently…

I had taken my appetite for granted. 😂

Right now, all I want is to feel like myself again.

May good health never become something we take for granted. ❤️
