BEYOUND THE TEARS: UNCOVERING THE TRUTH WITHIN 2
Still couldn't tell Esther the reason behind the tears.
"Since you don't find me worthy enough to trust and open up to me, there are many sisters around you; find one of them and share your burdens with," Esther had said, her voice dripping with disappointment. "Or, still, talk to God about it if you find it difficult to confide in anyone." With that, she turned and walked away, leaving me shattered.
Tears streamed down my face for a couple of minutes. Exhaustion eventually took over from all the crying; I cried until my body ached, and my eyes ran dry. Sleep finally claimed me, but it was fitful, filled with disturbing dreams.
When I woke up, I felt drained, both physically and emotionally. Without checking the time, I hastily made my way home, desperate for solitude.
As I walked, a familiar face stopped me. "Hey, you look stressed," Henry said, concern etched on his face. "What's going on?" I forced a laugh, trying to brush off my pain. "I'm just mentally stressed, that's all." Henry looked skeptical, but I didn't elaborate. He walked me down the road, moved to his right side, and bade me goodbye.
When I got home, I dropped off a few things and next headed to the office to collect a graphic design project. The sales representative, noticing my distress, offered me a seat. "I'd rather stand," I replied curtly, still battling my emotions.
The manager emerged, observing my frazzled state. "Come back at 2 pm," he suggested. "I need it now," I pressed, my frustration boiling over. "Come back by 2 or 4 pm, whichever suits you," he continued.
I was enraged - from 2 to 4 pm? Confused and irritated, I left the office. Why the delay? What was the point of coming back in two hours?
I used the in-between hours to pick up a few things from the market.
Later, at 3:30 pm, I returned to the office, still grappling with my emotions. The manager greeted me warmly and led me to his office.
"Young lady," he began gently, "I would have given you your work the first time you came, but your reaction when my secretary offered you a seat was... off-putting." He paused, studying me. "I wanted to see if you'd calm down, reflect on your behavior."
I apologized profusely. "I'm so sorry, sir. I'm not usually like that; I'm going through a tough time right now."
The manager's expression softened, and he handed me my project. "Whatever you're going through, don't let it take the better part of you," he advised.
"Forget about it," he said kindly. "We all have bad days. Take care of yourself, okay?" As he said those words, tears streamed through my eyes.
