FME TVET-IDEAS Project Flag-Off Ceremony Holds in Abia State.

The FME TVET-IDEAS Project was officially flagged off for all Training Service Providers (TSPs) in Abia State, marking a significant milestone in advancing technical and vocational education across the region.

The ceremony, held on 27th February 2026 at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (formerly Abia State Polytechnic), brought together key stakeholders committed to empowering the next generation with practical, industry-relevant skills.

Through this initiative, 675 trainees will undergo hands-on training in high-demand vocational areas, including:

• Solar Installation & Maintenance.
• Welding and Fabrication.
• Bakery & Confectioneries.
• Fashion and Garment Making.

The TVET-IDEAS Project is designed to equip participants with employable skills, promote entrepreneurship, and drive sustainable economic growth within Abia State and beyond.

This flag-off ceremony represents more than just the start of a training program, it signals a bold step toward youth empowerment, job creation, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s technical workforce.

Together, we are building capacity, creating opportunities, and shaping a more skilled future.

In just three weeks of hands-on training using the National Skills Qualification Framework, some of our trainees are already experiencing real life Solar PV system Installation. These trainees were on ground during a successful project delivery for a client in Umuahia, Abia State.

Trainees in the ongoing Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, at Solaris GreenTech Hub are learning the basic principles of electricity and how they apply to solar PV systems.

These sessions focus on key concepts such as voltage, current, and power, and their relationship with solar panels, inverters, batteries, and overall system performance.

This training is delivered under the IDEAS Project of the Federal Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank.

After two weeks of structured learning delivered using the National Occupational Standard (NOS) curriculum and aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), trainees showcased their understanding of teamwork, safety, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Solar PV systems installation and maintenance through group presentations.

Each team presented to an audience comprising fellow trainees and staff of Solaris GreenTech Hub, highlighting why teamwork, safety practices, and PPE must be treated as core priorities in all Solar PV installation and maintenance activities.

At the ongoing IDEAS FME–TVET Solar PV Installation & Maintenance Training at our centre, trainees are being equipped with practical health, safety, and environmental best practices essential for safe and effective PV installation.

Health and safety remain a core component of every field operation and installation project we undertake and as such the first thing we teach our installers.
