Title: The Tale of Eliab the Proud Farmer
"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." — Proverbs 16:18
In the days of the Judges, there lived a man named Eliab, a wealthy farmer in the land of Judah. His fields were vast, and his barns overflowed with grain. Every harvest, he gave thanks—but only with his lips, for his heart was lifted in pride.
One day, a humble traveler named Micah came to his gates, weary and hungry. “Kind sir,” he pleaded, “share with me but a loaf and a drink, for I have journeyed far.”
Eliab sneered, saying, “Why should I feed a wanderer who has not toiled in my fields? Go and work, and then you shall eat!”
Micah lifted his eyes to heaven and said, “The Lord sees the heart and repays each man according to his deeds.”
That night, a great storm rose from the east. The winds howled, and the rains poured without ceasing. Eliab's barns collapsed, his crops were flooded, and his wealth was washed away.
Homeless and in despair, Eliab wandered from village to village, seeking help—but many turned him away.
At last, he came to a small house on a hill, where a poor man welcomed him, fed him, and gave him rest. That man was Micah, the same traveler Eliab had once rejected.
Ashamed and weeping, Eliab fell to his knees. “Forgive me, brother. I was blind with pride and deaf to compassion.”
Micah lifted him and said, “The Lord humbles the proud and exalts the lowly. You are forgiven. Go now, and live with mercy.”
Moral Lessons:
1. Pride leads to downfall — those who exalt themselves will be humbled.
2. Show kindness to strangers — for you may be entertaining angels unaware (Hebrews 13:2).
3. What you sow, you shall reap — kindness brings mercy, but arrogance brings judgment.
4. True wealth is in humility and compassion, not in barns and fields.
