PROFESSOR NWOBASI EXPRESSES SAD OVER FSLC 2023 INVIGILATORS CONDUCTS.

The State Commissioner for Education Professor Paul Nwobasi has condemned the altitude of the 2023 first School Leaving Certificate Examination invigilators, who made pupils Commit examination Misconduct during the examination.
The Commissioner made his feelings known when he and his team monitored the conduct of the FSLC exams across the state.
Professor Paul Nwobasi who discovered Series of examination Misconduct aided by Head Teachers and Teachers as well as other FSLC 2023 invigilators which included writing answers on the board, pupils writing through textbooks, notebooks, and Oral answering of questions to candidates writing the exams among other exam offences.
Professor Nwobasi lamented the deterioration of Education in the State and emphasized the need to organise orientation lesson for teachers in the State School system.
The Commissioner however, frowned and warned that any other invilator cought in the subsequent exams being involved in the exams misconduct would face severe punishment.
He therefore ordered affected Teachers and Headteachers in the examination Misconduct to report to his office for further discussions.
The acting Chief register Ebonyi State Examination development Center, Dr Otusin Nkama said the First School Leaving Certificate examination (FSLC) preparations recorded no infringement owing to the early release of fund by the state governor.
He assured that writing examination by the candidates would be hitch-free as all required logistic were already in place ahead of the FSLC Examination in all the School within the three Zone across the State.
Meanwhile, some Parents including Dr Mac Sylvesta Mdodo and others deeply expressed Optimisims that their children would do well in the exams and appealed to the government to eliminate any form of examination delay that marred Examination success in the past.

PROMOTE HEALTHY CULTURE IN SCHOOLS, NWOBASI ADVISES SCHOOL PROPRIETORS.

The State Commissioner for Education, Professor Paul Nwobasi has charged Schools to showcase culture that promotes education in the state.
The school cultural display, titled "embracing cultural identity" which attracted foreign Nationals, displayed culture that promotes unity in diversity and encourages inter-tribal co-existence of students in an institution of learning.
Professor Paul Nwobasi along with SSA to Governor on Secondary Schools, Mr. Dunstan Nwogbaga and that of primary school, Mr Peter Nwogbaga commended the proprietor of Kasi Braun Memorial School for establishing American equivalent School in Ebonyi state, saying it would expose Ebonyi Children to science and Technological experts in the society.
Professor Nwobasi said Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is highly interested in the Education of Ebonyi Children, stating that culture promotes learning in the Schools.
He urged the School management to cultivate a good cultural identity for students of the school, calling on other Schools to emulate and ensure their students and pupils were cultured by the education system.
A guest speaker and former CMD Dr. Emeka Onwe Ogah said people's perception of culture differs from what culture stands for and explained culture as people's language, products, food, and pattern of behaviour of the identified group of people which included religion and greeting emphasizing that School culture does not permit rudeness and kissing around.
The proprietor of the School Reverend Father Johnbosco Ikeme thanked the State government and pleaded for government Assistance to extend good roads, water and electricity to the school.
Meanwhile, some Teachers and students from Indianapolis, USA, Mrs Carolina Schilling, Miss Chalene Braun and the School Principal Mr. Raphel Ngene welcomed their guests and promised regular exchange of students between Ebonyi State and the United States of America

COMMISSIONER NWOBASHI FAMILIARISES WITH SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Paul Nwobasi has charged principals of secondary schools to adopt the attitude of time consciousness in their profession as education thrives on time frame.
The Commissioner gave the charge when he had his first meeting with the Principals of Secondary Schools in the State, which held at Urban Modern Secondary School, Abakaliki.

Among the problems raised during the meeting were the lack of an effective uniform school calendar, impress to principals, dilapidated school structures and Laboratories, lack of science teachers, inadequate teachers in schools, lack of security men to guard school property, lack of mobility, inadequate supervisory role in schools, IGR syndrome in exams fees

Others are lateness and absenteeism of principals and Teachers.exodus of students in senior classes to miracle centres during external examinations among others.

Responding to the views of the principals, Paul Awo Nwobasi said the administration of Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has Education as a priority in his manifesto list.

The Commissioner appealed to Principals to be time conscious and punctual in their schools, and wondered why private schools should be ahead of public schools when professional teachers and Principals were in there numbers in Public Schools against the norm in some private schools, and insisted that the ugly trend in the public schools should be revised to its formal statuesque.

He assured public school managers that their welfare is guaranteed under the
administration of Ogbonna Nwifuru.

The State Commissioner for Education Primary and Secondary, Professor Paul Awo Nwobashi has assumed duty with a call on Teachers to take pride in their profession and do away with low morale, for them to achieve their teaching objectives.

The Commissioner made the call while addressing the Staff and Management of the Ministry of Education at Centenary City, Abakaliki.

Prof. Paul Nwobashi said his emphasis as Commissioner for Education is on productivity in primary and Secondary Schools to realize the goal in the pupil and students' exams results.

He advised the staff to avoid keeping malice and work as brothers and sisters and directed the Head of Departments to articulate the problems and needs of their department and forward them to him for discussion and possible solutions.

Prof. Nwobashi said the State Governor Chief Francis Ogbonn Nwifuru has much interest in the education of Ebonyi children and appealed to workers to come to work on time and report their difficulties in attending work to their unit Heads.

The most Senior Director of the Ministry, Mrs Grace Ngwu who welcomed the new Commissioner for Education said that workers have been diligent in duty despite the absence of the Ministry's Chief Executives.
She assured that the Ministry of Education Staff would perform their duties very well to assist the Commissioner to satisfy the Governor who appointed him to serve in the education sector of the State.

USAID IHP: 2024 PROGRAM CONTINUITY IN EBONYI UNCERTAIN.

The USAID Integrated Health Programme IHP Staff in Ebony State has declared that USAID's commitment to continue its support towards strengthening the Ebonyi State health system from 2024 is dependent on the State government's show of commitment to financing the health system.
The IHP Staff Miss Chidimma Eneze who briefed journalists on the matter of programme funding during the two-day Media Engagement on Reproductive Maternal and New Child, nutrition and Maleria (RMNCH+NM) Information, stories and issues said the IHP management is finding It difficult to continue without government assistance.

EBONYI STUDENT WAEC REGISTRATION A DONE DEAL.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Sunday Nwangele has said no secondary school in Ebonyi is still denied 2023 WAEC Registration as against erroneous online publication against State Secondary Schools.
The Commissioner stated this when he briefed journalists in his office.
Dr. Sunday Nwangele explained to the press that series of breaks witnessed within the second term academic season was as a result of safety precaution to Ebonyi State School Children during the just concluded 2023 general elections, stating that although it affected academic calendar, such midterm break cannot be attributed to confusion in the State education Sector as it was unavoidable.
Dr. Nwangele said, Ebonyi State Government received notice of WAEC Management hasty decision that three hundred and forty five secondary schools have been derecognized with fine, of five hundred thousand naira for each affected school which amounted to ninety four million naira.

The Commissioner said while the State Government was contemplating legal action against WAEC for lack of fair hearing, the state Governor Engr. David Nweze Umahi perceived the negative impact on the final year secondary schools students and to avoid joining issues, with WAEC decided to settle the matter with WAEC instantly to avert Prepared examination students from missing WAEC registration.
He said WAEC Management granted Ebonyi Schools Extra period to accommodate all Schools WAEC registration, stating that Secondary Schools in Ebonyi State have registered WAEC and ready to write it without problem.
He therefore condemned in its entirety the online publication that associated confusion to the State schools and urged reporters to always verify issues before publication.

USAID STATE2STATE EXPOSES EBONYI PROs AND AIO TO PUBLIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT.

Ebonyi State Public Relations Officers PROs and Area Information Officers AIOs have been trained on how to understand budget and financial management in their various MDAs.
The one-day working seminar which was designed for PROs and AIO took place at State2State Office, Abakaliki.
Among the lessons State2State brainstormed with Ebonyi State Information purveyors included Public Financial Management PFM, Medium Term Expenditure Framework MTEF, Medium Term Sector Strategy MTSS, Debt Management, Budget Cycle, Budget Calendar and others.
Addressing the participants, the Ebonyi State Team lead, Dr Sam Onyia explained the role of State 2State in the selected States of the Federation which included Ebonyi and five other States in Nigeria.
Dr Onyia emphasized that USAID State2State stands to help States improve their budget and financial matters to maintain Financial accountability and transparency in their public financial management.
The State lead said the State budget should focus on the people and added that budget transparency simply means involving people through the Community Charter of Demand CCD, for Citizens' budget participation.
He maintained that debt management is necessary to States or individuals as nothing is wrong in borrowing but borrowing what one can pay back, saying that part of their roles was to assist in profiling debt for better management.
The State2State Communications Specialist Mrs Nneka Egbuna gave the overview of USAID State2State activity and importance of two-way communication in governance.
Meanwhile, two State2State facilitators, Ms Ejiro Okotie and Mr Ibiam Azu exposed the PROs and AIOs to gender equity, social inclusion communication, and a deeper understanding of public financial management respectively, urging them to leverage the lessons.
The seminar featured group discussions and the presentation of action plan.

Mr Anya Nkama outlined programmes Ministry of Information Ebonyi State has initiated for the control of sexual gender based violence, stating that the Ministry has Communication Professional Staff scattered all over the State as PROs and Area Information Officers and have been playing her roles to sensitize Citizens through government programmes and policies.

Dr. Nwangele called on students to develop the attitude of going to library to read books, stating that anyone who reads books can perform favourably on schools quiz, debate and examinations.
The National Librarian/CEO, professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi represented by Mr. Benard Ida said the readership promotion campaign is part of mandates of the national library and called on all Nigerians to adopt the habit of reading to reduce illiteracy in Nigeria.

Five schools participated on the spelling Bee, pick and speak and reading in indigenous language activities, while King David Academy won on spelling Bee with a personal prize of I-pad, Godis international school won the first prize on pick and read activity, followed by Christ-Angel international secondary school with second prize.
