A lot of us are guilty of this one thing - procrastination. It is the act of delaying or postponing a task or set of tasks. So, whether you refer to it as procrastination or akrasia or something else, it is the force that prevents you from following through on what you set out to do.
I do push myself often when I have a project at hand to never delay my delivery. This is not just because of the consequences of delivering late but also because, to build a reliable reputation in business, one must jettison every excuse that hinders one from reaching set goals.
Procrastination can be a difficult problem to overcome, but there are many things you can do to help. The first step is to identify the reason you are procrastinating. Maybe you are afraid of the task at hand, easily distracted or feel overwhelmed. Once you know the reason, you can start to tackle the problem head on. Here are some tips to help you overcome procrastination:
1. Set realistic goals. Don't try to do too much at once. Decide what you can realistically accomplish in the time you have, and focus on that.
2. Take a break. If you feel overwhelmed or are struggling to focus, take a break. Every few minutes can help you relax and refocus.
3. Use a timer. When you start a task, set a timer and work for a predetermined amount of time. This will help you stay focused and avoid distractions.
4. Meditate or exercise. Meditation and exercise can help you relax and focus.
5. talk to a friend. Talking about your struggles can help you feel less alone.
Set aside every form of distraction (people, social media and yourself), restrain yourself and dedicate time enough to focus on the task at hand - do so until the task is complete and delivered to your boss, client or project lead.
Me we all embrace to grace to follow and finish everything we lay our hands to do in this year 2023 without procrastination - for you are inescapable. So, make up your mind, write that business proposal, chase that client, begin that project and see it to a logical conclusion.
Be Successful!
