Police Arrest Welder With Locally Fabricated Pistol in Ondo, Suspect Claims Fi***rm Belongs to Man at Large
USO, ONDO STATE — The Ondo State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected welder and recovered a locally fabricated pistol at a workshop in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command disclosed this in a press release issued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the Police, the arrest followed intelligence received on September 11 concerning Andy Giwa, a welder and resident of Imogun Street, Uso, who was allegedly working on a pistol at his workshop.
Police operatives attached to the Uso Police Division reportedly moved to the location after receiving the information and recovered one locally fabricated pistol, while Giwa was arrested and taken to the station for questioning.
The Police said the suspect, during preliminary interrogation, allegedly claimed that the fi***rm belonged to another individual whose identity has not yet been established and who is currently at large.
The Command said efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend the alleged owner of the fi***rm and establish the circumstances surrounding its possession, manufacture and intended use.
Case Transferred for Further Investigation
The Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for what the Command described as a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
According to the Police, investigators are expected to determine the source and intended purpose of the fi***rm and establish whether other individuals may be connected to the matter.
The Commissioner also commended the citizen who allegedly provided the information that led to the Police operation, saying timely and credible intelligence remains important in preventing fi***rms from being used to perpetrate crime.
The Command assured members of the public that the identities of informants would be treated confidentially and protected in accordance with established security protocols.
The Ondo State Police Command further reiterated its commitment to tackling the unlawful possession and proliferation of fi***rms across the state through intelligence-led policing and proactive operations.
Members of the public have been urged to report suspicious persons, movements, activities or suspected possession of fi***rms to the nearest Police formation or through the Command's official communication channels.
