Algeria is taking AI seriously. 🇩🇿🤖
Algeria’s government has been working on a National AI Strategy built around three foundations: data, digital infrastructure, and human skills.
The strategy is designed to strengthen innovation, modernize public services, and build national capability in emerging technologies.
But what caught my attention is the bigger ambition.
Algeria wants to use AI beyond chatbots — across sectors like agriculture, healthcare, industry and energy, while supporting startups, research and local AI solutions.
It also sees AI as a potential way to position Algeria as a regional hub for African AI development.
Why this matters for Africa:
The AI race isn't only about who has the biggest model.
It is about who builds the data, infrastructure, talent and companies needed to actually use AI at scale.
Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa and other African countries shouldn't just be AI consumers.
We need African AI strategies that solve African problems with African data and African talent.
Algeria is showing that the race has already started.
My take: Africa's biggest AI opportunity may not be building the next ChatGPT.
It may be building the AI systems that understand Africa better than anyone else. 🌍
