Stock investment favours the rich more.

It doesn’t mean a middle-class person cannot invest or make money from stocks. But when you have substantial capital, even a relatively modest return can translate into significant money.

For the average person, especially in an economy where the naira keeps losing purchasing power, putting aside small amounts and expecting stocks alone to transform your financial situation can take a very long time.

That is why I think stock investment makes particular sense for people who are already financially comfortable, or for middle-class people who can consistently invest meaningful amounts without putting their basic needs at risk.

It is also a very interesting strategy for parents investing for their children. When you have 10, 15 or 20 years ahead of you, time and compounding can do a lot of the heavy lifting.

So, yes, stocks can be for everybody.

But the benefits are not distributed equally when the amount of capital you’re investing is vastly different.
